Riding "Skyline" - 03.24.2013
Very loose conditions. Made for some interesting moments. Brakes were useless - was like riding on ice. At about 2:42 in the vid I had to use part of the hillside as a berm to help slow me down. It ended up being like a jump. :) Tons of ruts -- I think I hit every one of them too! Still a fun day ...

.... and I freak out riding on the loose leaves that you guys have on your trails!
Skyline is an interesting one. I suspect you find it very similar to your trails in Japan except for the loose sand and dirt. One thing I did not do and not sure if it would have helped was to drop the tire pressure. I had them pumped up pretty hard for the climb up.
Seeing as there wasn't really any deep dirt or sand, I don't know if having a softer tire would have helped.
I think you just need to let it go, ride it out, and hope for the best at the bottom!

That was pretty much it! This was my 3rd riding this trail. the last two times it was after a rain so the ground at least had some tackiness to it. this time it was just dry and loose! Still fun ... felt bad for the 2 novice riders that came with us. The managed to make it down without crashing so all in all a good day

haha! thanks! just before that berm-jump-stunt-whatever you can see I start to slow down a bit. I was trying to see if I could line it up straight and just let it go but i had too much forward momentum and the steepness of the trail started to make me slide forward .. that's when I spotted the rather tall hillside and thought that I might be able to use it to catch me ...
In retrospect, I probably should have also grabbed a bunch of rear brake as I hit the hillside. Had I done that i probably could have rode it out.
But since i didn't do the aforementioned, I had too much speed and thought I was going to go up and over the hillside! That's when I sort of yanked the bike to the left (making it sort of like a hip jump) and managed (somehow) to land it square!
Ask me to do that again and I doubt I'd be able to!
But, yep ... wherever there was a rut, i was in it! In some ways it helped me prepare for my DH race this past weekend. There were a couple of deep rutted sections that I had to ride in
Cheers!

This trial must be a great ride!
How was the loose its always feels scary for me.
Here in japan we actually have wet conditions 90% of the time however when we do have a dry day I actually get more scared on the loose dry turf!
ahhaahhahahhahha
