Mountain biker boobytrap almost got me.
This one almost got me.... Incidentally there were 4 of these jagged trees propped into middle of trail in various high speed locations of trail ?????

Yeah ,I heard about the buried nails in blocks at BC...I sure hope that no wild life was harmed by that devious act....I do a lot building and repairing and restoration and maintenance of trails that I have been using for 40 years at my own inclination... I get all positive feedback about my work though... most people use trails and never are inclined to stop and do some work...We ride mostly natural single track that needs work on a yearly basis...Most the time if I don't do it , it doesn't get done...I actually just got back from a ride that was planned to tale a little over an hour but was out 3.5 hours repairing a few sections of trail that were washed out from run off... now Im late to work Lol... Peace...

Thats awesome they caught the person, I didn't hear that news...That person had a very warped mine to do that, I mean getting a flat from it would be a bummer but to think of someone stepping on the nails or an animal is really bad..a wire was strung across Barr Trail last summer in a stretch where you can hit some really high speed, luckily some hikers spotted it before a bike found it,I mean hiker use versus mtb use on Barr trail is probably 500 to 1 ..Not sure what that fool was thinking...We have a pretty constant problem with people constantly placed boulders in blind drop zones on some of the local trails....it happens a couple times a week on a trail I most frequently ride so Im always mindful of it which can be a buzz kill..

WTF! How could anyone be out on beautiful a hike deep in nature and decide to maim or kill a random stranger? I hope jail finds them soon. Glad you are alright.

@mtnryder-co: speaking of which, this shit was in the news today;https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/mitre-10-apologises-after-staff-member-threatens-to-mow-down-cyclists/LDGVUP6HWZ2HZO52THR6FKLK34/

@streetkvnt-kvlt: and this is total bullshit. That person would be exercising their freedom of speech....as an EX-employee of Mitre 10.

@streetkvnt-kvlt: Geez ! That guy sucks and the world is full of those guys....We caught a guy sabotaging a trail a couple months ago...Im not a man of violence "any more" , but we had a word with him and went on our way, Im sure he was embarrassed enough to hopefully learn his lesson and now thinks twice about sabotaging a trail that MTB'ers could be coming down at any given time.

@adm750: Definitely shows the mentality of these people with bad intentions that they are stupid enough to post their fantasies on social media...If I were plotting a dirty deed I would keep it to myself....But I'm not down like that...

@adm750: yeah you are not wrong on that one. The comments people made in support of him were total WTF?! The mind really boggles when people get angry and rage online about some people riding their bikes across a bridge. Sure bikes are prohibited from using it, hence the protest.
Basically it's how dare we a group of cyclists exercise our legal right to protest.

@mtnryder-co: to think that people actually go out of their way to 'construct' those booby-traps/obstacles and sabotage trails in the first place.

This may be an unpopular opinion, but it's the same mentality that some mtbers take when they build illegal trails or features on public land. Sure we are not actively trying to harm someone, but it's still taking something meant for everyone and changing it to better suit our preferences without consulting the others who use it.
The difference is that in addition to being selfish, boobytrappers also lack any kind of empathy in their actions. If riding a bike fast on a legal trail is punishable by death-by-impaling, booby-trapping should be punishable by life in prison.
