by Russ Day
Rider owned bike company, Transition Bikes, in the true spirit of democracy, is letting riders like you decide the name of their new hardtail mountain bike frame. The contest winner who comes up with the winning name first will win a new frame and swag but will also have the lifetime prestige of having the name they chose immortalized on the top tube. Runners up will also receive Transition Bikes swag and have their “close but not quite” names posted on Pinkbike.com for all to see. The contest is being run exclusively here at Pinkbike.com and will last approximately two weeks.

Contest details and link to entry form inside...“We started thinking about all the names we wanted to call the frame and put them into a list. Then we started asking some of our riding buddies what to call it, and they were coming up with better names”, said co-owner
Kyle Young. That sparked the idea for the contest and re-affirms their philosophy that a bike company should be of the people and for the people.

Transition Bikes Contest Name The Frame

The upcoming frame has just completed extensive design and testing and is going into production as this is written. Expect it to be available early spring 2004. The frame is built around an extremely oversized 4130 chromoly straight gauge tubeset with plenty of gussets. Of primary importance was designing geometry that would suite a wide range of riding. The bike is designed to be a do-it-all freeride hardtail that shines at dirt jumping, urban, park and any kind of trail riding you point it at. The frame is equipped with a BMX style bottom bracket (reducers are available to run standard MTB cranks), horizontal dropouts with axle positioning/chain tensioning system, and a replaceable derailleur hanger. The frame is disc specific and can accommodate up to 8” rotors.

Transition Bikes is a rider owned and operated company, started by Kyle Young and Kevin Menard, based out of Seattle Washington. The Transition Bikes philosophy is simple, skip the hype and manufacture well built frames at a realistic price. Transition Bikes currently offers two other freeride frames. The DirtBag is a 6.2” adjustable travel big hit freeride frame and the Preston FR 4” travel frame delivers short travel freeride and mtn cross capabilities.

One entry per email address will be allowed, so think it through and enter your winning moniker! Contest closes midnight pacific time January 31st and the winners will be announced here on Pinkbike.com shortly after.
