Diablo Freeride Park Set to Kick-Off East Coast Riding Season

Apr 29, 2011
by Shawn Orecchio
(Vernon, New Jersey) April 26, 2011– Mark your calendars, Diablo Freeride Park is set to kick-off the official start of the 2011 east-coast riding season this Saturday, April 30th! Home of the U.S. Open of Mountain Biking, Diablo Freeride Park located in Vernon, New Jersey returns this season with several mountain-wide improvements including a revamped top-to-bottom intermediate trail, new signature Jeff Lenosky features, brand new Mongoose BootR rental fleet and nearly 20 events including the 9th Annual U.S. Open of Mountain Biking and the 2011 World Police and Fire Games.

For the past month, the ParkLogic Trail Crew has been busy scouring the mountain and revamping existing lines and features to improve upon the already impressive custom-built trail network. Particular emphasis has been placed on creating an improved top-to-bottom intermediate line called “Breakout 11”. The new Breakout 11’line utilizes some existing trails, as well as new lines to create nearly 1.5 miles of intermediate-inspired rollers, jumps, berms and some of the best flow on the mountain. Bridging the gap of progression between novice trails such as Greenhorn and advanced trails such as Dominion, the new Breakout 11 is sure to be an instant Diablo Freeride Park classic.

Riders looking for more challenging features will be greeted with new elements being introduced in the existing Covenant/Pipeline area; now dubbed ‘the pit’. The ParkLogic Crew has joined forces with Freeride legend and expert course designer Jeff Lenosky to construct a handful of signature ‘JL’ features. Using ParkLogic’s proprietary feature construction methods, these new features will be steel framed, custom-rolled & welded and slated for completion in mid/late May.

Convenience, knowledge & Experience. Since 2003 Diablo Freeride Park has proudly rented quality downhill & freeride bikes to nearly 10,000 riders. This season the park once again offers the most affordable and comprehensive rental program in the region including an ALL-NEW demo fleet provided by Mongoose. The 2011 Diablo rental fleet consists of two versions of the Mongoose Boot’R, including the top-of-the-line spec’d, $5600 Boot’R Romo. Featuring two different gravity-specific bike rental options, riders have the choice to pick a bike that suits their ability, their riding style and more importantly, their budget. Also new in 2011 is brand new gear by Kali Protectives. Diablo bike rental customers get to try first-hand the technology, protection & comfort that sets the Kali helmet & protective gear line above & beyond the others.

Experience America’s Premier Gravity race. Prestige, honor and bragging rights are at stake this May 26th-29th as athletes from across the globe will make the pilgrimage to Diablo Freeride Park to compete in the most prominent downhill event in America. The 2011 U.S. Open of Mountain Biking returns offering a $25,000 cash purse, a world-class downhill course, the increasingly popular Giant Slalom discipline and a party-like atmosphere featuring forty-plus bands in the Festival for Humanity

Tons of improvements, good times and 2 full, no-strings-attached days of epic riding is in store this weekend at Diablo. Nothing else matters.

Funny how the owner of Diablo writes his own stuff about HIS park then written from a third party. He even writes his own Wikipedia page about himself. So how are we to believe all the hype? Of course he is going to hype it up to be the greatest thing since slice bread. Its his place! I hope a lot of you dont fall for all this marketing hype!

Ummm, Hey goofy..... where else in the East would you presume to call an infinitely more exciting if not THE best mountain bike park than Diablo.(IMO) I'm from New England and barring crossing the Canadian border (Bromont or Mt st Anne) I can attest to the fact that Diablo is one of , if not THE best freeride park in the East. Ask the World Cup guys, they love the place!!!! They wouldnt run the US Open there if it was a shit mountain. and Hater... Just so you know it is not at all uncommon for subjects of any said Wiki page to be some of the main contributors of the info contained in the Wiki page. IMO Diablo's got the 2nd fastets gondola next to Sunday River and the flowiest jump trails in the NorthEast. Just barely lacks in Vertical height. You are from NJ and are probly burned out on the place like we in New England are burnt on Highland. But I still love AND appreciate HL......just sayin. You should feel lucky you live in such close proximity to such a facility.

Would love to go but no money...Gasoline issues
  • 2 1
Hey Panzer. You could live here in Nova Scotia where the price of gas works out to be $5.22 a gallon. And furnace oil is $4.08. No wonder everyone else has such nice rides.
  • 3 2
who the F in canada prices out gas in gallons...
  • 2 1
Well, we're well on our way to that very quickly. So much in fact that I will be selling my basically new M6 with in the next two weeks. If anyone needs a f'ing sweet DH here it is.
@Poundsand. Maybe he's dumbing it down for an American.
  • 4 1
Uh, maybe he priced it in gallons so it would be easier for panzer (who is American) to understand? No stations in Canada use gallons, it's not that hard to throw the numbers into an online converter either.

highland is different, not necessarily "better". both amazing parks and what's best is that im right in between the two
  • 1 0
I wish I could go! I will have to wait for northstar or squaw valley to open!!
  • 1 0
nah, not better. not at all. At leat all the trails at Diablo are open all the time. AND I have grown a beard waiting in between runs to get abck to the top of the mountain. I actually watched a kid hike up the trail and just beat the chair lift by a couple of minutes up the hill due to such a long lift line and a slow lift. You get more of your moneys worth at Diablo. That being said, I'll be there at H-land on opening weekend.
