Same as the qualification, the main race day was dusty and very hot. 40°C welcomed tired riders on the finish line. Megavalanche de la Reunion has got a reputation for being an even harder challenge than it's Alpe d’Huez sister.
Yet again, no difference from qualification runs, a big part of the final selection was made by mechanical problems. Among the favourites, let's bring Pierre-Charles Georges (Scott Sport - winner of l’Alpe d’Huez) as an example who broke his rear derailleur while riding in 2nd place on the track. Leading through nearly the entire race, Remy Absalon (Scott Sports) took the well deserved, fifth win at this event thanks to his experience and a very good start where taking risk in the higher parts of the track really paid off. Nicolas Quéré (Commençal) overtook Remy after a few minutes of the race, but that was not enough to beat the man. Then a close fight between Alexis Chenevier (Scott sports) and Nico Quéré begun for the podium. Alexis fell a few kilometres before the finish line to let the second place goto Nico Quéré and taking the third one for himself. This edition was good for the local riders, as well. Alexandre Sicard (Specialized) and Christophe Payet (Scott Sports) take 4th and 5th place respectively. Nadine Sapin takes the win in the girls race.

I think the others guys are still in the airport checking her passports...
Yeah thats how most names come about, from past historical figures. I just thought it was kinda ironic that probably some of the most well known French guys have the same/similar name.
He decided not to race the finals as he had so many mechanicals in quali including a hefty time penalty so he would be far back in the pack at the start of the final and wouldn't be able to get the time back
Probably a good decision. Reunion Island has not been kind to Cedric. Props to the guy for still showing up even after the horrific events there from almost a year ago.
Maybe thinking of Julien Absalon? Although Remy did race XC in junior category for France, but also DH at the same time. He has been in enduro since 2004.
