52 weeks ago I set myself a challenge to compete in the Mega Avalanche 2010 after a 10 year break away from my bike due to a back breaking injury. But after all those blogs and my recent patch of injuries - I can finally say it is finished!

Guys, just wanted to give you an update on that Specialized Enduro frame you wanted me to try… I was going to just drop you a mail with some thoughts, but I took it to the Mega instead. The Mega avalanche has always been on my list of “must do’s”, but it just never seemed to line up with the schedule. This year, however, is very different. I’m not sure where to start, but the one thing you should understand; Enduro DH is super hard!

52 weeks - My Journey to The Mega Avalanche

So I have decided to set myself a challenge – I am sure to some this may sound weird and to some of you just plain odd, but I am going to challenge myself for the next 52 weeks to Train hard physically, Mentally and Spiritually for competing in the Mega Avalanche 2010.

The Saab Salomon Avalanche Trophy - Megavalanche - The Main Event was again unbelievable as were the toilets at the top of Pic Blanc come race day. Ever wondered what it's like to run in the middle of a pack of stampeding buffalo?

The greatest show on Earth? You bet! Don't call yourself a mountain biker unless you have heard the call and paid homage to Pic Blanc in the South of France in mid July along with 2,000 other racers from across the World. The Mega really is MEGA!

Leaving the center of Birmingham fashionably late after ramming the Descent-Gear Sprinter to the tilt, we wheelied down the M40 towards the big smoke and the M25 for what can only be described as week of carnage.. A Sea France ferry it was and the port of Dover via the diversion and Dartford Bridge meant we missed the boat literally.

This is a brief story of the Megavalanches in Peru and also an invitation to join us for the next Megavalanche in 2009!

The Megavalanche Race started in Peru in 2005. At that time the local riders from Cusco were just a few XC riders. Now it's amazing to see how this race has motivated the local people from Cusco to leave their XC bikes and try to build their DH bikes. Now everybody in Cusco loves to go fast, jump and of course they are strong enough to learn by crashing constantly.

All was not looking rosy in the FlowMTB chalet on Friday night. Petra and Jo had just managed to get their bikes fixed by the SRAM guys, when Jem discovered his frame was cracked and Rich took out his bottom bracket only to find it cross threaded and wouldn’t go back in. Luckily Jem had come on holiday with a spare frame (these guys had a week in Verbier too so had not packed light!) and had a late night building that up. Guy offered Rich his spare Heckler, but with the late hour, and various parts needing fixing to it he decided against it. Maybe something to do with the rain…..

Last chance boys and girls to enter the greatest race on Earth, The Megavalanche!

The British invasion is already planned with 58% of all entries coming from the U.K. The girl's field is also super strong this year as there are already 100 girls entered, they can take another 100 more.

This is a story of the past Megavalanche Races in Peru and what we are planning to do for the new edition of 2008.

This story starts in 2005 when it was the first year that the Megavalanche Cup came to Peru. That year the downhill scene in Peru changed. It was the first time we raced everybody at the same time. In edition we saw for first time top ranked racers racing in Peru: Cedric Gracia, Fabian Barel, Rene Wildhaber, George Atherton, Franck Parolin and many other top ranked bikers from South America.

The second annual Megavalanche endurance downhill race was held in Peru on March 26th. The event attracted South America’s top gravity racers as well as a many seasoned World Cup pros. The Peru event was a stop on the Avalanche Cup series which features mass start hour long downhill events in Europe and around the World.
