Cannondale Factory Racing athlete Anton Cooper is an absolute natural. At the age of 21, he already has two U23 XCO World Championships under his belt and has his sights set even higher for the 2016 season. Anton found his love for racing at an early age after his father saw his potential to be a great mountain biker and got him involved in local mountain bike races. Calling North Canterbury, New Zealand home is certainly an advantage for sharpening skills in the offseason in preparation for his world tour first full season in the Elite category.
Join us for episode 6 of #WHATSBEHIND where we get up-close and personal with the reigning champ at home and learn how he became one of the most promising XC racers on the world stage.
This is what it looks like when you snag your second U23 XCO World Championship.
Needles to thread. Cooper excels on the tech.
The perks of being a winner. Cooper's custom FS-I for 2015 World Championships.
Filmed in and around Christchurch, Canterbury NZ. Featuring 'Flying Nun', 'Port Hills Traverse' & The Luge (Craigieburn) . This time next year we'll have a gondola accessed bike park here in town too, come visit! :-D
Looking forward to seeing him compete in Open, his lap times were up with the elites last year.
He's a good dude too, plenty of time for the less gifted and kids. Great ambassador for sport in NZ.
I watched the end of that race, I think Anton had initiated the sprint early, dropped the other rider who was done pedalling by the time this footage started. Anton seems to be very good at closing out races.
