The 2015 Deep Summer Photographer Challenge is all set to bring the most rock and roll talent pool to Crankworx Whistler the event has ever showcased - and your photos could be on screen.

Beginning today, Monday, June 15, Pinkbike is accepting submissions to secure an open wildcard spot in this prestigious photography contest. One lucky winner will be given the opportunity to compete for one of two $3500 prizes and see his or her photos form part of an open-air show during the 10-day Crankworx festival.

bigquotesThis year the emphasis has been on breaking the mould and making photographers push themselves to get under the veil and present the true story of Whistler. We've selected some truly expressive and artistic shooters to come to Whistler and interpret what a thousand people have done before them... The photographers will have to really think hard about how they express themselves and challenge their capabilities, - Seb Kemp, Deep Summer organizer

The five pro photographers set to storm Whistler Mountain Bike Park to create the slideshows that make up the Deep Summer show are:
• Gary Perkin - flipper.co.za
• Grant Robinson - grantrobinson.com
• Sam Needham - samneedham.co.uk
• Ryan Worcester
• Tim Koerber - timkoerber.com

These photographers, and the lucky wildcard winner, will rally their chosen athlete teams to embark on three days of intense shooting and editing commencing Saturday, August 8. Slideshows will be handed in by the end of the day Tuesday, August 11. Then on Wednesday, August 12, a massive crowd will experience Deep Summer in Whistler.

Think your photo skills are up to the task? Submit three photos to by 11:59pm PST on Sunday, June 28. The best five entries will be selected by a panel of judges between June 26 and July 1, at which point online readers votes will be collected. Voting for the best entry begins on July 1 and finishes on July 8, with the submission to receive the most votes named the lucky wildcard winner on July 10.

The competitors will work in the Whistler Valley and Whistler Mountain Bike Park, competing for Best in Show, a $3500 award judged by the Deep Summer panel, and the Viewer's Choice Award, worth an additional $3500 and bestowed on the photographer who wins the audience and online voting.

Each photographer will be required to shoot three of the Whistler Bike Park's iconic shot locations, forcing photographers to dig deep into the creative well to find a unique twist on old standbys. Prospective competitors can find a little inspiration from the winners of previous years: Ale Di Lullo 2014, Nicholas Teichrob 2013, Rueben Krabbe 2012, Robin O'Neill 2011.

The Deep Summer Photo Challenge will take place under the stars at Whistler Olympic Plaza. Priority seating near the giant HD screens is available for a $5 ticket and the area beyond the ticketed seating is free.

I would have loved to enter this but being Australian means I cant! Frown

I would have too... I am from Belgium.

Why is it limited to these countries? That's discriminating. The plane ticket from Belgium will be ca. the same as from the UK.

@armageddonactionsports - might be because there's enough Australians at Whistler already ;-) ( I do agree though, does suck)

I threw my hat in the ring. I've been shooting moto for awhile, but never had the opportunity to shoot MTB at this level. Don't discount me because I submitted moto, look past the throttle and see the action, story and intensity in my shots. I want to bring that to the MTBing community.

"Submit three photos to by 11:59pm PST on Sunday, June 26." Ok Sunday is the 28th. So is it end on the 26th or on the 28th? Clarification please!

Why is does BC needs to be like that I mean excluding Quebec like come on why would you do that?
  • 1 1
It had to do with Quebec tax laws, nothing to do with BC. It's something along the lines of Pinkbike would have to pay tax on the cash value of the prize if someone from Quebec won.
