I am thinking about getting a 4x bike like this for play on the trails. Mostly slopestyle riding some mild xc to get to the fun DH spots and of course the occasional Dj riding. What are your thoughts for using this bike as a all round play bike??

i would get a full sus personally transition double would be prefect

Thanks for the advice! I have looked at the Double and also the Mongoose Nugget or NS Soda Slope bikes as well

Update -- I ended up getting a sweet deal on a Trans Double from my LBS in the raw finish!! Built it up in August and have been riding the heck out of it. Absolutely LOVE it. Need to upload some pictures still.

Very nice, how does it ride.... Currently looking to build myself one. Are they tapered forks? If so, what headset are you using?

Cheers, Cliff

bloody fast! you have to get a nukeproof headset.. well 44mm one. np ones are well made. can do tapered or 1 and 1 1'8

Have you kept the standard dropouts or gone with a maxle 135 ?
If you have kept the standard dropouts, what type of rear axle are you using and in what hub ? Razz
  • 1 0
kept the standard ones. got a hope pro2 with the 10mm bolt up axle its really strong, and stiff too.
  • 1 0
How did you get one of those, did not know you could get bolt throughs on hope pro 2's, I have just bought on what you said before a superstar components 10mm quick release axle. Could you answer me this, a dmr revolver hub comes with a 10mm bolt through can I just pull it out and use the quick release or is there more to it ? The help is much appreciated thank you for your reply Razz

10mm bolt through will be fine.
mine are just bolts on each side of the hub not right thru like a thru axle.
i have this hub fanatikbike.com/merchant/1547/images/large/hub-135bolt-main2.jpg
your dmr's will work fine.
with a qr or the superstar one.

 Thanks mate, much appreciated.

If you want a really solid setup get a 135x10mm thru hub and a 10mm QR axle like this superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=32&products_id=287.

I've been running one for a while and its nuts how much it stiffens up the back end. I used to use 10mm bolt-up hubs but they tend to be a huge pain in the ass in the long run with stripped threads etc. More-so in horizontal dropouts granted but I feel the 10mm QR is a stiffer option anyway. (Not to mention ease of use)

Worth a look anyhow.

Hey mate im about to buy one and get some floats, im assuming you did the tapered headset/steerer option? How do you find it?

  • 1 0
your home made one look fast too!
  • 1 0
Verr nice, I actually scoped out your build when I was putting mine together

How're you finding the 831's? I'm starting to go fork hunting... fancy an upgrade, also for a snap!
  • 1 0
tbh dont pay the extra for kashima ones... i have ridden both and these are the same...
www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/components/forks-suspension/product/review-fox-32-831-10-37711
second hand fox 36 is what i would have bought.. 15mm axle is a bit flexy but the fork is reaaally light
  • 1 0
AH right.. thanks for the input! so much crazy hype over kashima, but fox are silky smooth anyway, nice to know!

Both rotors are on backwards, champ.

Also how do you ride with your levers like that? That position would break my wrists if I stood up.
