Urban Wilderness Gravity Trail, Knoxville, TN

Timer Trail, Anniston, AL

Rock, rock, and more rock will rattle and test the skill of any gravity rider who descends the Timber Trail. Already flush with a range of singletrack, Coldwater Mountain will be augmented by this gnarly, techy trail that will feature car-sized boulders, steep rollovers, and drops.

Gorges Jump Line, Brevard, NC

A stronghold of East Coast riding, Brevard, NC, has the terrain to lay down a steep, rocky trail peppered with jumps and drops. The scenic waterfalls and deciduous forest will add to the experience of any visitor and make for a photogenic ride

Soooo, if you want to go on a sweet riding trip, Brevard is the only place on this list you would choose. Trust me. Our only shortcoming is the utter lack of decent, LEGAL, shuttleable trails. Do yourself (and us) a favour and get a legitimate DH trail built here. For the amount of World Cup talent that calls this place home, it's sad how little we have to offer in the realms of true DH trail.

Preach it homie, we have amazing terrain but lack the trails to enjoy it

I don't see Brevard though. I see Northa Carolina verse Tennessee. Beech Mountain and Bailey's Park (the first year-round resort dedicated entirely to downhill mountain biking in the United States) easily edge out Windrock and TTC. Windrock and TTC are amazing places to ride but are far more raw and not Mountain Bike specific. I understand North Carolina's desire to hold the title as the king for mountain biking in the East but I argue a new trail Knoxville will have a greater impact on the sport.

Sorry Alabama.

definitely Brevard, sooo much potential, it needs to get this support.

@gxld I wouldn't count Bailey Mountain as an option until it's open. Remember the Reeb Ranch that was all hyped up but never really came to be? I have high hopes for Bailey Mountain and I'm looking forward to riding there, but I'll wait for it to be finished/open before I'll consider it a destination.

Brevard needs a trail like this. Gorges is 30 minutes from town. Bailey Mtn will be closer to 50, and Beech Mtn is 2hrs away. It will have a larger potential impact on the economy in this town than you might think.

To be honest I think Brevard has a pretty strong scene already. I think im going to have to throw a vote to Knoxville

 North Cak

Tennessee, Tennessee ain't no place I'd rather be...gotta go with the AMBC Knoxville crew on this one. Not to knock these other projects, but the Urban Wilderness Trail is located in the heart of the largest population center out of all these locations so if you want the East region project to win verses the other West and Central winners for the finale, my vote would go to Tennessee.

So timer trail has a rep. in a tie. No ties in mountain bikeing. I votef georges jump.
  • 3 2
yeah to bad Alabama isn't getting enough votes. If you haven't rode there before you are missing out.. Probably one of the best trail centers in the south.
  • 3 1
There's some great riding in AL
  • 3 2
Way to blow it Oregon. Voting day must have been on cash assistance day. More fuckin Powell's butte riding for me....
  • 3 0
Voting was against the Bay Area... hard to compete with that population. Team Dirt will get it done, but it will take a lot longer.
  • 2 1
With 13 bike shops in the AVL area, I thought Brevard would be a shoe-in, but Knoxville is killing it...
  • 4 0
That's because people here take the riding for granted, Shreddie. While the town of Brevard declares itself "The Cycling Capital of the South," what have they actually done to expand and improve the cycling infrastructure in the area?
  • 2 0
See this NEMBA 2 finalists are asking for black diamond trails.
  • 2 1
Looks like it will be between CA, MN and TN in the finals
  • 4 2
 Gorges Line!
  • 1 0
So guess it's just South East?
  • 2 0
I believe a dozen or more land managers/volunteer groups from up and down the whole East coast applied, these three made the semi-finals...

Truth be told, the Northeast already has lift access in many places so I imagine a lot of them were skimmed over...part of the criteria was that the trail had to be free for all users so that excludes anywhere with a lift already.
  • 2 0
But Spirit Mountain, MN (midwest candidate) has lift access that is not free.
  • 1 0
While it is true that spirit mountain has a lift, there is a ride up as well which is free. you pay for the lift if you use it.
  • 2 2
Poor Alabama. Only 79 votes so far.
