Part 2 of Brayden's Recovery:

Serious brain traumas are a hot-button issue in adventure sports. No one knows this as well as Canadian, Brayden Barrett-Hay, who had his mountain biking career nearly cut short after a life-threatening crash at last year's Redbull Joyride. Brayden is back on his feet but not back in the saddle, yet. Follow him as he physically and mentally rehabilitates with the goal of regaining his professional riding career. Although he appears to be healing without incident, doubts linger as to whether he should step back on the bike at all, given that another head injury could mean permanent impairment or death. The doctors advise against it but Brayden is determined, maybe to his own detriment, to get his old life back. The Long, Scary Road Back From Brain Injury | Brayden Barrett-Hay: reGAINING PSYCHE, Ep. 2

After a TBI it is awesome that you're coming back and looking and feeling this strong. I'm fully infavor of you getting out and flowing the trails....however using good judgement, I'd avoid contest trick jumping. Flowing with friends and having fun is what it's about. Best of luck to you young man.

Ive had quite a few concussions, just like a lot of members here on this site, and have had to make some judgement calls on what and how I participate in riding bikes now. I still push it the odd time, but you need to understand the effects of cumulative hits to the head can do. Our brains don't heal like our bones do and none of us need to be vegetable that can't ride at 40 or deal with severe post concussion syndrome.

Id highly suggest anyone who's reading this, or Brayden, watch "The Crash Reel". It deals with a Snowboarded in a similar situation to Braydens and put TBI's in extreme sports into perspective. Its enlightening, funny and well put together. Most of all in sheds light on an issue thats hard for a lot of us to grasp.

I watched the crash reel today and damn scared the shit outta me. I think with TBI's ypu really have to think about life and while none of us ever wamt to give up sometimes you have to step back and think

Yep, "The Crash Reel". It will give you some crazy real insight not only on dealing with the injury itself, but from the family's position as well. You have to consider others as well as yourself.

I've been in the same boat before. Head injuries are scary. Stoked to see that he is pretty much 100% back. But there are some things he will never get back, believe me. But its so awesome to see that he still has such a positive attitude. Cant wait to see him ride some more comps.

I had a head injury two summers ago that ended my riding season with seizures and a helicopter flight to the ICU... last summer I rode harder and better than I ever have in my life. It's always possible to get back what you had and more. Its all about the mindset and attitude you have towards it. With his attitude there's no telling how far he can go!
