I would just like to point out that they did not "come to be know as the buffalo soldiers" because of there bikes, a small group of existing "buffalo soldiers" from the army's 25th regiment, which was just one of many segregated units, just happened to test out bikes for the army. check your facts.

I think the idea is that Fisher and friends were there at the beginning of the current continuous mountain bicycle trend. That said, this is great documentary material!!

Mountain biking as we see it today was started by the guy who makes Richie products and he was good friends with Gary Fisher. Richie sold one of his vary first actual mountain bikes to Gary which then went and redesigned it to what we see today...so yea suck it Gary!!

I remember reading an article in "Der Spiegel" magazine about 20 years ago about the Swiss military bicycles. They were still using these big clunkers in the mid-90s. The article presented them as anachronistic and impractical, which I suppose they are. Still, it was kind of cool. I am from Switzerland. Those army bikes are a kind of a "cult-bikes". They where used by the army for arroud 90 years. And yes, that IS exactly that bike yo saw on the railroad

! Singlespeed and more heavy as a DH-Rig 15 years ago, buillt to last....

So you think YOUR tough? try riding the Tour Divide 2000+miles on fully rigid 1.75 rubber …..on railroad ties …..for 60-80 miles a day. Talk about forcing an invention . what doesn't kill us will give us back problems for the rest of our lives. Ha, we are so comparably weak.

Mate, Buffalo Soldiers where african-americans that fought during the US civil war. Bob Marley (african-american) wanted to bring it to light, and let everyone know the importance of the Buffalo Soldiers on the civil war and on the slavery abolition act.

Buffalo soldiers were the first African American cavalry soldiers,named so by the plains native indians in the 1860s,not in 1890.Except for the title,great video,though.

I'm not sure but bar is straight and it has a front derailleur, it's probably a 93. btw there is no 07 model from what I know. BUT they talked last year about buying new ones... it made a media "buzz"

ya this will be a cool series to watch. It's funny i did a bunch of reports on this for high school, reused the same report many times haha i can't believe what they had to do, they didn't ride roads or trails because they were supposed to be seeing how useful they would be in ferrying wounded/ammo/guns on a battlefield and i don't think those bikes pedal all that great
