I've tried to buy a bike from CC THREE times. The first time they needed to check availability and never called me back (I had literally been standing at the front desk with my cc ready to pay a deposit). The second time their best price was $1400 more than what I paid for a Yeti AM and the third time they couldn't get stock from Devinci, though I was able to get it from Dunbar who can sell Devinci online for the same price delivered to my door.

My buddy got a decent deal on a Remedy from them but sorry Calgary Cycle, I'm done trying...

Yikes, their markup is ridiculous. I guess everyone in town uses the ridiculous Suggested MSRP pricing model from the manufacturers to put a price tag on their bikes. Even when it's marked down 30% to 50%, the stores are still making a killing. You can price out an Ibis Mojo in the states with basically all XTR components and still end up with a bike that's roughly $1500 to $2000 cheaper than you'd get it in Calgary. Waup widdat? Especially when the dollar is at par with the Americans!

Since most of the bike is made outside of North America and only put together in the USA, it is not exempt from import duties. I bought an Ibis a few years ago and looked in to this, I believe it is something like 15%, and then on top of that there is going to be GST. Sure prices are higher here, but it is not the stores price gouging. It's taxes and other factors that are creating the difference between the Canadian and US prices. It's upsetting at the time, but when you break your collar bone after going over the bars, you will be happy those extra tax dollars are going in to our health care system.
