On April 13, 2014 Alyeska held its first annual winter downhill race during the Spring Carnival festivities. 29 racers riding both fat bikes and downhill bikes competed on at one minute intervals for the fastest time starting at the top of the Tram all the way down to the bottom of the mountain at the day lodge. There was even a Polaris eBike that raced in the event. The Alyeska bike park opens June 27, 2014

Mountain biking in Alaska is starting to grow more and more every year. The ADB crew is teaming up with many organizations in AK to help continue the growth. It is exciting to see riding progress up here including the amazing terrain that Alyeska has to offer. If you're looking for a mountain bike adventure in AK, hit up the Downhill Brigade crew as we are out exploring the vastness of AK all the time in search for new terrain to ride. We have also teamed up with VMBAH, which is a recreational trail advocacy group based in the Matanuska-Susitna region of Alaska. They are dedicated to increasing the quality and quantity of sustainable trails in some amazing areas around the Matanuska-Susitna Valley.

Look at all the haters. Everyone needs to just come out and admit they want a fat bike! I know I do! Another pony in the stable!

The fact this contest even exists is enough kudos. It's a bucketload harder than it looks, good on ya all for getting into it!

 20", 24", 16", 12", pocket bikes...

When will all the bike manufacturers learn! enrico650(b?lol) only wants 26" wheels! He has decided for everyone else what they should ride & spend money on. What the heck are they still doing giving people all these choices after he has laid down this supreme decree?!

Companies are very smart, Kona for example is bringing 26" bikes back for next year.

I meant this as a reply to your comment. Thanks for picking it up. And that is super duper about Kona. Lot's of companies will still be doing 26". This isn't the start of some mountain bike version of this www.youtube.com/watch?v=LsWPerNBRbU

FAT bike racing will evolve like everything else. I don't have one now, but I want to get on this bandwagon early so I can get an edge on the competition. I know that sounds weird but it's true. Looks like fun. Throw in a few jumps and berms and you're set.

  • 3 0
it was i think maybe not x games but theres a segment where andrew shandro talks about it not working out in seasons

It was x-games many years ago. It was kind of like 4cross on dh bikes in the snow.

It was a straight line event the first year, then it became a slalom event. The last year they had it, it was on the boarder/skier cross course. Think Palmer and Giove won it. They didn't have it after that because the ice they used for that course made for some crazy crashes. Think someone even broke his back when his front tire slipped on the lip while trying to jump a triple at like 35mph.

Good to see the home turf getting its 2:56 of fame...though where were these guys when I was growing up in Alaska?

I'd love to ride a fat bike; moreover I'd love to try an obese one.
