Megavalanche hosted at
Reunion Island is about to kick off this Thursday, the 27th of November. The divine island of La Réunion is going to be a playground for the 20th running of the race...
Reunion Island landscape is breathtaking
Yes, it is the twentieth edition! The event will once again be a fantastic opportunity for riders to stretch out the end of the season. During the week, everybody can spend time with top riders in the famous Village de Corail, discussing the big, steep race track, volcano runs, qualification specials, and anything and everything in the MTB world.
This year, on the start line we will see Cedric Gracia (CG racing Brigade), Remy Absalon (Scott) as well as Nicolas Quéré (Commençal), the enduro specialists. There is no shortage of DH racers too, including: Pierre-Charles George (Scott) the winner of the last Megavalanche de l’Alpe d’Huez, Thibaut Ruffin (Commençal - 2nd in l’Alpe d’Huez), Mélanie Pugin (winner of the Mega Ladies in l’Alpe d’Huez). And don’t forget the XC racers like Alexis Chenevier (Scott), winner of the infamous Transvesubienne.
Behind the scenes of making a video edit with Herve and Olivier
At the beginning of the week, we wanted to quickly come back to the track, well, the very top of the course which definitely is the most impressive and scenic part. We checked it out with Remy Absalon who raced his first Mega on the island in 2002 as a Junior and Alexis Chenevier, his young team mate.

Reunion is more like vacation with buddies or lady friend, with some biking included. You have to shuttle to get to the top, and while the riding is ok, it never comes even close to what you get to descend in Alpe. Hence I remember everything else but biking more intense.
For people from north america a waste of money, there's so many better locations straight down central/south america than Reunion.
