Race Report: 2023 BC Bike Race Day 4-7 on Vancouver Island
@atourgates:
I see your points. This was more a question directly for BCBR, if they ever respond...
I know that the organizers were offered grant money to stay in Nanaimo and refused, so Nanaimo (in typical fashion) got skipped for basecamp. All that was done was 600 people bombed down our trail network and was gone before the dust had settled..
I have also heard that BCBR is very persuasive in approaching associations for hosting, so much so they have gone above some clubs and forced their way in.
This is more a question of who the responsibility of repair is falling on, because we all know that a 3k does not begin to cover the costs. Likely this will all end up on on volunteers or in our case it will end up on the individual builders as the club doesn't have the capacity to maintain the networks let alone a blown out course

Race Report: 2023 BC Bike Race Day 4-7 on Vancouver Island
So here's a question @BCBR...
When 600 people + volunteers and sweeps go down a trail, an excessive amount of wear and tear is done upon the trails. I assume at $5/racer per day @600 racers your looking at $3000 per network spread over the 25-40km of trails that are used. That's not enough to scratch the surface of the work required to fix the damage caused by the race. Most of the trails are built and maintained by volunteers I might add.
What is your internal dialogue surrounding the use of volunteer trails for profit of your organization?
