ERW airless bike tires

I'm not sure that carbon nanotubes are cheap enough to make this affordable yet…

I'd like to see it have something like the design they had for cars a while back (which I still wish had made it to market- I've been following this for a few years) which had an interchangeable tread for when it wore out. Maybe this can become more of an inner tube solution, with a lighter, thinner tire outside of it?

 That's a wheelie good idea....

I hate that I love puns like this.

 Getting spoked about it

hmmmm carbon nanotubes.... Welcome to $5,000 tires ladies and gents. No one is going to want to pay what it takes to try these. Innovation is good, but sometimes unnecessary and unreasonable

This is a great concept but, as some of you have said, it will never be economically feasible. I would be interested to see if an airless design would actually outperform a traditional tire system. Air is hard to beat when it comes to weight. They say in the video, though, that this design "provides a more even ride."

My question is how is the tension adjusted in the rods? The only thing that I can think of is the use of electro magnets that can manipulate the structure of the carbon. Unless they meant that there would be different models with different rod tension, in which case cost would be even more astronomical if you were to plan on having options.

no one wants to pay big money for a tire. don't matter how nice it rides, after some use you will have to replace it like a normal tire. when was the last time you bought something cheap that was carbon and ended up working out?!

The extremely low durometer required of mountain bike tires will make this impossible. Race level tires for extreme riding last very few runs, and this would be prohibitively expensive.

Great idea hope it works well !!

can you still peel it off the rim pinning a conner
