I noticed this thread is supposed to be pro's and con's?! all i read is the usual 'konas are shit, spesh's are awesome' at the end of the day its not what u ride its how u ride, and why u ride! i mean, when ur out with ur buddies does it really matter whos bike is better or whos has the newest wheels/better headset/most travel, etc etc.
i (as im sure every1 has) have been out on a trail when some kid (on a bike that is evidently cheaper and 'not as good' or new as specialised as what im riding) flies past and theyve still got that 'my god im glad to be riding this trail right now' look plastered all over their faces (like any rider on any trail and more importantly ON ANY BIKE has)
long story short, we all do and love this MTB malarky for the same reasons, every1 has there own preferences on bike/setup and who am i or you to tell them different!! Get out there and f**king hit that sh*t and remember why u love two wheels so much!! :-)

Bah this is pinkbike, who cares how you ride, so long as what you're doing it on isn't a kona?
my frame had a small crack and my rimes cracked and dented and my frame had lots of dents
you take horrible care of your bikes then. those things, aren't kona's fault. dented frame means you crashed hard. again, not kona's fault..............

well kona could be responsible for the crack in the frame, and I stressed could, but it does sound like you dont take care of your bikes very well

some people hate them because there r many snapped kona pics in the web but if u search, u will see snapped Rocky Mountains, Orange, GT... Specialized... i have seen 2 snapped spesh over here and just 1 kona (and that kona had a really heavy owner)
others hate kona because they had 1 but now they have way better (and more expensive) bikes... its not ok to put a kona against an M6, Demo, Sunday...
BUT
konas are really good bikes for its price and have WAY better specs than same priced bikes (like Big Hits)
i'll get flammed in 3, 2, 1... (now YOU spesh owner will hit the quote button)

You sir, are an idiot, flat out.
Your rims denting and cracking was likely due to lack of upkeep, absolutely NOT Kona's fault in any way shape or form.
Dents, also all you. A small crack in a frame after two seasons is not something to be completely surprised about, I'm not saying a frame should only last two seasons, but it's not like they all last more. If your frame was dented as bad as you say it was, there is also a good chance that they (dents) had a large part in the cracking of the frame. There is also the possibility that it is only in the paint.
You can say that the Demo looks better (referring to another post of yours), however the demo and the two bikes we should be talking about are in two completely different classes of bikes, both in price and application.

amen. that statement is 100% true. konas are specced very well for the price

I rode a kona for a week in whistler, and overall, it was fairly solid. I went through one rear wheel, a brake, and a derailleur, which is fairly normal for a week straight of resort riding. I agree though the frame seemed to dent easily. I dented the frame in two places, one was from not that bad of a crash, so it did seem to dent easily. I prefer the bighit because it seems to be more reliable, and also a little more downhill oriented. Ive ridden a bighit since 2006 and had zero problems, and its gotten me some good times on the race course. Both are solid entry level downhill bikes though.
