I'm an engineer and a decent welder, and that is 100% a bad idea. Insufficient fusion of the majority of your weld, with dozens of holes and other potential points for failure to occur at. Being able to stand on it without it breaking is not a good test of structural integrity for the application. A nose heavy landing or maybe even hard enough braking with the front wheel could break that fork and allow you to test the friction coefficient of human skin.

The weld should be stronger than the surrounding material, and I have zero doubt in my mind that your weld would snap long before your tubes start tearing if I put that in a vice and tried to break it.

What im wondering is....

Why?

Like why build such a rafty looking fork when you could pick one up second hand for less?

Wouldn't it be better to just tack it together and get a pro to weld it?

I'd consider one, just need to work out if my cassette can be taken apart to get the range of cogs I'd want

I'd say you could make the holes bigger to save more weight but it's a good idea!

^ yeah, you don't really need any structural strength, it just prevents the cassette from moving over.

Dont think NASA didn't use JB weld to hold the space shuttle together.
Compression and rebound dampers installed.
