The start of the Australian race season kicks off in Hobart, Tasmania. Rick Boyer took the win in the Elite Men, with Junior World Champ, Troy Brosnan taking the win in the Under 19 Men and posting the fastest time of the day!
Further details, loads of pictures, and a highlight video inside!Hobart is situated on the island of Tasmania, a state of Australia. The track is located about half an hour from the city, and has a fairly low altitude, making it slow and technical at the start, but progresses into fast chutes and open fields with large jumps and berms like something you'd expect to see on a motocross track.
The track was blown out and dusty, but rain on the Saturday night would make conditions moist and tacky for Sunday's race.
Under 19 Men
The Under 19 Men was a fiercely contested category, with some of the fastest junior racers in the country, and arguably the world competing on the course at Mt Tolosa.
Honourable Mention - Connor Fearon
South Australian, Connor Fearon was looking fast the whole weekend, and would've been in for a very impressive result in the final had he not crashed twice within the space of 30 seconds. He still manages to nab 6th position with a time of 3:19.08.
3rd Place, Phillip Piazza - 3:12.83
ACT rider Phillip Piazza rounded off the podium in 3rd position with a 3:12:83. Phil was pedalling everywhere possible and looked on the edge every run.
2nd Place, Brandon Yrttiaho - 3:10.49
Queensland rider, Brandon Yrttiaho placed 4th overall at last month's Newton's Nation, an impressive result amongst a field of riders like Sam Hill, Chris Kovarik and Bryn Atkinson. He's quickly becoming one of the fastest juniors in Australia, stepping up to 2nd position with a time of 3:10.49. Brandon sending the road gap.
1st Place, Troy Brosnan - 3:08.71
Current Junior World Champion and South Australian, Troy Brosnan would take the win in the Under 19 category, with the fastest time posted of any ride on the weekend, 3:08:71. Troy keeping it fast and low through the bottom doubles.
Elite Men
3rd Place, Rhys Atkinson - 3:13.92
Things are looking good for Rhys this season. His older brother Bryn tends to soak up the spotlight, but things could be set to change. Rhys takes 3rd position with a time of 3:13.92. Rhys stylin' for the fans.
2nd Place, Shaun O'Connor - 3:10.71
After some impressive results and experience gained this year while overseas, Shaun managed to keep things up to pace to finish 2nd with a time of 3:10.71. Shaun with his swift style.
1st Place, Rick Boyer - 3:10.51
Rick has had a consistent and successful year of riding. This event would cap the year off to remain the fastest ride in his state, and one of the fastest in Australia, rewarding his efforts with first position and a solid time of 3:10.51. Rick cornering for dough.
Congratulations to Rick and the other competitors.
