Australian National Round #1 - Hobart, Tasmania

Dec 14, 2010
by Captyvate Media
The start of the Australian race season kicks off in Hobart, Tasmania. Rick Boyer took the win in the Elite Men, with Junior World Champ, Troy Brosnan taking the win in the Under 19 Men and posting the fastest time of the day!

Further details, loads of pictures, and a highlight video inside!Hobart is situated on the island of Tasmania, a state of Australia. The track is located about half an hour from the city, and has a fairly low altitude, making it slow and technical at the start, but progresses into fast chutes and open fields with large jumps and berms like something you'd expect to see on a motocross track.

The track was blown out and dusty, but rain on the Saturday night would make conditions moist and tacky for Sunday's race.

Under 19 Men

The Under 19 Men was a fiercely contested category, with some of the fastest junior racers in the country, and arguably the world competing on the course at Mt Tolosa.

Honourable Mention - Connor Fearon

photo
South Australian, Connor Fearon was looking fast the whole weekend, and would've been in for a very impressive result in the final had he not crashed twice within the space of 30 seconds. He still manages to nab 6th position with a time of 3:19.08.

3rd Place, Phillip Piazza - 3:12.83

photo
ACT rider Phillip Piazza rounded off the podium in 3rd position with a 3:12:83. Phil was pedalling everywhere possible and looked on the edge every run.

2nd Place, Brandon Yrttiaho - 3:10.49

photo
Queensland rider, Brandon Yrttiaho placed 4th overall at last month's Newton's Nation, an impressive result amongst a field of riders like Sam Hill, Chris Kovarik and Bryn Atkinson. He's quickly becoming one of the fastest juniors in Australia, stepping up to 2nd position with a time of 3:10.49. Brandon sending the road gap.

1st Place, Troy Brosnan - 3:08.71

photo
Current Junior World Champion and South Australian, Troy Brosnan would take the win in the Under 19 category, with the fastest time posted of any ride on the weekend, 3:08:71. Troy keeping it fast and low through the bottom doubles.

Elite Men

3rd Place, Rhys Atkinson - 3:13.92

photo
Things are looking good for Rhys this season. His older brother Bryn tends to soak up the spotlight, but things could be set to change. Rhys takes 3rd position with a time of 3:13.92. Rhys stylin' for the fans.

2nd Place, Shaun O'Connor - 3:10.71

photo
After some impressive results and experience gained this year while overseas, Shaun managed to keep things up to pace to finish 2nd with a time of 3:10.71. Shaun with his swift style.

1st Place, Rick Boyer - 3:10.51

photo
Rick has had a consistent and successful year of riding. This event would cap the year off to remain the fastest ride in his state, and one of the fastest in Australia, rewarding his efforts with first position and a solid time of 3:10.51. Rick cornering for dough.

photo
Congratulations to Rick and the other competitors.

Damn, Troy looked so fast in the last corner leading to the finish line compared to everyone else. Could be all the red he's wearing, but his time sure hints otherwise. I'm definitely going to look forward to watching him some more.
  • 1 0
i second the motion that its caused by all the red he has on. thats the fastest color out there.
  • 1 0
brandon is only a second of troy haha still beat all of the elite time.... cant wait to see him racing worldcups

Troy is the next big thing in downhill pro racing. I don't know if he's ready for podium in the overall standings but he will soon be the next World Champion. Keep it up Troy, and stay as far away from injuries as possible..
  • 1 0
i think he definatly could be world champ in years to come , since hes been riding with monster energy specialized he has got sooo much quicker by the looks of things. mini sam hill really

Is it possible that on the other side of the Earth the Gravity is heavier? So fast an nice track...
  • 2 0
technically yes, gravity is not even around the earth due to the difference in composition around the surface (density) but i don't know if that has any effect here, (read it in a Nat-Geo) Wink
  • 2 1
i learmed that in grade 7
  • 2 0
 learned*
  • 1 0
The closer you are to the north and south poles, the heavier the gravity would be since the earth bulges out in the middle.

Nicely shot and edited... a lot of fast riders coming up as usual, are you going to be at the nationals Ty ? would love to meet up, I will be there with my team from Specialized Indonesia.

Will be at every round including champs, this is the only video teaser people will get to see, just to representation of the standard of race films I produce to look forward to for my full length movie at the end of the series. Get in contact with me via my email or inbox, cheers.

From "just" to "end", in your reply, the way you structured your sentence was really bad. Didn't make sense...
  • 3 0
yeah it does your just dumb
  • 1 0
Read it again smartass. Needs comma's and wording changes to make more sense, so ham-ham I think you're the dumb one. "Just to representation of the..." that alone doesn't make sense, how old are you? Now considering he's trying to gain assistance in production of his full length movie (which is a big task) I believe it's relevant to point out mistakes so he can come across more professional.

I think you'll find it was a typo mate. I'll satisfy you, sam-mw, the spelling and grammar Nazi here...

"just A (was in the middle of typing something different, forgot to replace TO with A) representation of the standard of race films I produce to look forward to, for my full length movie at the end of the series."

Hope that does the job for you, sir.
  • 1 0
Still doesn't make sense, (but that's ok). Anyway, you can't talk sam-mw, your initial sentence that criticizes Downhills grammar is riddled with bad punctuation and shoddy structuring.

Sort it out you lot.

Way to go Aden Wyber, 6th place in elite. Not bad for first year out of junior!
  • 1 0
You lucky bastards... You have sun and warm weather, and we have 0,5 m of snow and ice under it.

I find it very funny that Troy's Brosnans time was better than the pro 1st place time
  • 1 0
Loved watching and Troy looks so smooth on the bike. Would have loved to know if they had any women's races and who won.

I wanna know what's up with Rennie too he's was one of my favorite riders
  • 1 0
He has only just hopped back in the bike in the last month for the first time in 2 years, hasn't done any training what so ever.
  • 1 0
@machaut. Rennie came 8th. 8 seconds off Brosnan. Less pies, more speed Big Grin
  • 1 0
Aussie pies are really bad as well.
  • 2 0
zorba73! Liar!!! - ha ha Wink Aussie pies are actually really good. I never thought I'd be a meat pie man, as we don't have them in Canada, but they are actually pretty good. I've never had the ones in England though. But, yeah, they don't make you faster, just fatter Smile
  • 1 0
Ha! I knew someone would bite, thought it would be an Aussie though. Yeah, Aussie pies are pretty good, not as good as English pies, they're the best. Actually, Kiwi pies are second best to English pies, then Aussie pies third.
  • 3 1
Get ya hand off it! Australian pies are far superior to any other food on earth. However, I am biased as I am Australian.
  • 1 0
Oi mate..not saying your pies are bad, third place is pretty good placing on the pie charts. The only thing that's keeping them down the rankings is the questionable meat source and use of margarine in the crust. Not trying to start an argument here (or am I)?
  • 2 0
What are yous on about! We have the best meat pies in the world by far. And as if they dont make you faster? A meat pie is what i call a "race brekie".
  • 1 0
Listen up Zorba, firstly, it's sauce, not source and it's actually offel and gravy in the pie. And as for the Margarine, we don't use margarine in the crust. And even if we did, at least they wouldn't be as dry and shitty like the cake pastry they use here in Canada. Spew
  • 1 0
Waldon83 You drongo! I didn't mean meat 'sauce', I was questioning its 'source' as in 'where it originated'. I'm just having a rev up mate, I know you fellas make good pies, best I had in Oz was in Byron Bay. Bloody good kebabs as well.
  • 2 0
Dirty greasy kebabs, good after a night on the grog
  • 1 0
My f*cking god! Brosnan is a rocket! Eek
  • 1 0
Fearon is the beast! Wish he didn't crash TWICE!!!! He will destroy Troy!!
  • 1 0
 Incredible filming
  • 1 0
 Cheers mate.
