Up by 30 points isn't actually mucking the womens... But she's absolutely killing it, especially after missing a round. No doubt about it -- she's a fucking champ.
considering she missed the first race, and has 4 straight first place, i think it's fair to say she's mucking then womens. not shit gwin is ahead by so much, he's on another level.
She's racing better than any woman that's for sure but she's not mucking them because there's still a ton of contenders. Gwin is pretty much on his own right now at the top. No doubt though she's my favorite to win it all, probably substantially.
People should also take into account how much of a slayer run Ragot put down today, I was watching it live in my bike shop and was crushed to see her 2 seconds up only to basically crash across the finish line. She would have beaten Atherton and Hannah by at least a second! Cheers to Rachel though, she is definitely on a whole 'nother level!
If Ragot hadn't crashed at the bottom, and Atherton hadn't gone off course, Atherton still would have won. 4 and some seconds up at the split says it all...
Bottom line: Ragot got disqualified for this, Rachel didn't. Rachel now leads the overall. Bad influence on the standings by a questionable decision of the uci.
tabletop84 - I completely agree. While she may be talented, etc. etc, Atherton clearly went out of the tape and around a post. No matter if it benefitted her or not, she should have to play by the same rules as everyone else. Doing otherwise is just wrong.
also would like to point out that saying well if ragot had not crashed she would of won but that's the sport it's about putting that perfect run in and she didn't nether did Rach but she still came in faster. or we could say well if Minnar was riding better he could of won the men's etc etc
Last year in leogang. It wasn't nearly as bad as rachels and I too would be very upset if I got disqualified for the same thing while my worst opponent isn't.
to be totally honest I have tried finding it but cant so can't comment, I will say though that is last year not this year nor at the same track at the same race. however I do 100% understand what your saying if it was similar then yes it is not fare..
brook is always crashing, and yet he manage to do good, if that kid could just learn some pointers and fast he will on the top with gwin and everyone else
Emmeline, Tracey, and Rachel were all absolutely KILLING it today and I was SOO proud of each of you today! Emmeline you crashed hard, but still got up and had an absolutely killer run! Tracey you launched that last double and even though you snapped your seat straight off you hung on! Rachel you lost time going off course, but you still got back on and got your focus back! Bottom line is that you're all pushing each other so KEEP IT UP!! Oh and UCI...there are rules for a reason...stick to them you idiots or else what's the point?!
Just lookin at the women's standings . It seems Rachel won all the 4 world cups excluding South Africa (she didn't partici. I think the one who won on Fort William is Emmeline Ragot. Maybe it's a typo error?
To bad about brendawg. Saw him get off course before the big open gnarly sectiom. I asked how he felt he said he messed his thumb up and couldn't race. He was pissed.
I know, I wanted him to win so bad ! So awesome to see him 5th overall though ! I love how a few years ago in collective he was like " It'd be really cool being up there at the top with Sam Hill and Steve Peat and he's beating both
Not true of us all. All countries have good guys and wanks who comment on PB. Gwin is the business and may well go on to be the most coveted rider in DH history. If so good on him, his bike skills and commitment are second to none. The fact he always strives to do better, even when he is better than everyone else, should not be knocked but listened to in awe of someone trying to achieve perfection.
Guys.. This is D.H. Nation.. I don't care where any of these guys are from. I just love watching these guys and girls shred the hardest courses in the world.
this isn't a nationalist competition guys... we're all here because we share the same passion for all (or most) things bike related. personally, i think that goes above and beyond any person's race or place. quit yer bickerin please.
My comment was a response to someone who called Gwin a gwanker. Seemed like someone was jealous or upset that Gwin is the best rider that DH has ever seen.
There is no reason for racism or even misguided patrotism in sport at all. Gwin is fantastic and in a very short space of time has come to dominate the sport. You cannot claim he is the best DH has ever seen though, that will be Nico, when Gwin has won 10 world champinships. Then you can claim he is the best.
He is well on course to breaking Peaty's 17 win record, that's for sure.
I don't look it as patriotism at all, he is a fantastic rider and happens to be from the U.S. It is nice to see someone from the states doing so well. Same as in any sport people back teams from their hometown there is nothing wrong with that.
As for world championships that is one race and anyone can win but to win consistently on the world cup circuit is another thing.
I totally disagree, in my opinion Gwin is not even close to the greatest DH racer of all time (yet).
It's like Gee said a few years back, people get a few wins under their belt, their confidence soars and it snowballs. He's doing brilliantly right now and I'm stoked for him but think back a couple years ago - remember when Sam Hill was "the greatest racer there ever was and ever will be"?
As far as I can see Nico is still the greatest DH racer of all time, followed by Peaty. And in a more general MTBing sense, Brian Lopes is probably the best racer of all time.
Gwin is a dominant force at the moment no question! But he has a great race package, top bike and team, a great trainer and a great ethic towards racing and winning. I get the impression this is why people don't like him, I'm sure if he lightened up and started doing big moto whips over the jumps people would warm to him but that won't win you races! (Unless your Danny Hart!)
To say he's the greatest of all time is ridiculous tbh! He has won 1 season and on the way to a 2nd. Nico and Peaty are in my view the best as they have always been at the top for decades!
A few years back Sam Hill was the most dominant force in DH he was winning by bigger margins than Gwin has been and he was the riders rider, everyone said Sam Hill could ride any line that others never thought possible but inconsistency, injury and some big crashes have held him back. I personally can't wait to see him back up there again challenging as he is an amazing talent.
Hart and Brosnan will be the challengers for Gwin next year.
a lot of people complaining about the races are boring now....maybe boring from a points perspective but exciting to see how many races Gwin will take home...also exciting to see whos going to beat him...if anyone!!
