Looks like the Stund crew are at it again, and thankfully I had a chance to catch up with Romo, Kinrade, and the boys for a little early season filming in Kamloops. Right off the bat I could tell it was going to be a good time...mainly because it took me only thirty minutes of being there to puke.
First stop: Falcon Lanes, to discuss our plan of attack and roll some balls.
Morning motel meeting. As it turned out, the boys killed it pretty good right before I got there on some custom trails built just for the Stund crew. So the plan was to check out some new scree lines just outside of Kamloops that looked promising from Google earth.
A note of caution; What looks epic on Google Earth, does not equate to epicness in real life all the time. Turns out the lines were a little shorter and less steep than our computer screens showed. Plus, the gale force winds and rain pretty much shut us down right when we got there. Such is shit in movie making land. Sometimes you strike gold, sometimes you get the lemon. You don't know, if you don't go.
On our way back to Kamloops we spied another zone that looked promising.
Sun Rivers Golf Course clubhouse. The best and cheapest breakfast in Kamloops. Eat local, eat well.
Arriving at our zone for the day. Garett Buehler and Steve Romaniuk take it for a test drive.
BC rail in full effect, double-decker'd, with one train every hour or so. Whatever, check out the sweet lines behind the train.
James Doerfling, giving me his best, "if you make me ride that line one more time, I will punish you" look.
Steve Romaniuk, just another day at the office.
Garett Buehler. The one to watch this year.
Romaniuk and Buehler, getting a quick one in before the lunch bell.
This hit had a lot of promise. If only we had another two days to supersize it. Note to self; Build more, talk less.
With the evening light getting all lit up, it was time to send the virgin ridge lines that looked so good the day before.
Mike Kinrade likes to build trails. He spent the better part of the day working his ridge, only to have the sun crap out on the whole top section of it when it was time to film. Somehow, I don't think he cared too much, judging from the scream he let out at the end of his run.
What goes down, must first go up. It was not an easy hike to the top of these ridges. Especially with a forty-pound bike on your back, and a minefield of mini cactus balls to trudge through on the way up.
Mike Kinrade, not giving a shit about the cactus balls.
Garett Buehler, letting it rip, full speed, with no trail anywhere in site. Balls.
James Doerfling and Steve Romaniuk, double teaming one for the team, and the cameras.
If I could turn this photo into a film clip, you would see how fast James Doerfling was sending it down this pitch. Let's just say, if he crashed, things would get real ugly, real fast.
It's a long way to the top if you 'wanna rock-n-roll.
By late day, the main point of focus was the dusty ridge, which lit up quite nicely.
The battle rages.
...and the winner is...
You, because you worked your ass off all day and every day, for this fifteen minutes of bliss. Kinrade and Romaniuk...I think they're onto something.
Go into the light. The light is a good place.
Shutting it down in Kamloops with the indomitable spirit of Garett Buehler.
Whenever I see Margus' name on a PB post I get stoked. Bar none has the best photos in the biz. How he blends the riding and the natural terrain truly is art. Keep up the good work Margus. You are inspiring.
one of the bests mountain bike movie proyects, the pics are really awesome but i think looks like some misteriuos vibe or something like this with that retouch you used. cheers god vibe and more stund series more often
Awesome photos, awesome riding. So wish Romo was in more vids these days. He's an amazing rider and a funny guy too. Can't wait for more Stund, epic stuff guys!
