Today, we are really happy to present Walter's 2013 video. Not only is Walter incredibly talented at biking, filming and editing, he's also the definition of having a good time. The Rise wouldn't be complete without this guy on the team, and the way we all got to meet each other is just as interesting.

Many years ago, Walter sent an e-mail to one of our video producers Vincent Allard, saying he wanted to come visit Canada, more precisely Quebec, for 2 months and kindly asked for any help with lodging options. After a few e-mail exchanges, Vincent decided to give it a try. Sounds simple enough, but this pretty much meant spending 2 months with a complete stranger from the other side of the world that doesn't speak french and has an Austrian, broken English accent.

What is awesome about biking is that it often sets completely different individuals on a really similar state of mind, which was the case in this situation. As soon as we met Walter, we quickly realized that he was an awesome person to have around and one of the funniest dudes we had ever met. He has a super open-minded attitude and rarely worries about anything, which always guarantees a good time in any given situation.

Over the following years, we took a couple of trips overseas to visit him in Austria and to travel over Europe for the main purpose of riding bikes, and it's safe to say that having him around makes every trip a blast. He is always motivated to ride bicycles and film which is exactly what we are all about. He introduced us to his friend John New who also kills in on the bike and as he's definitely on the same page as us, he quickly became part of the family as well.

For this video, Walter went on a couple trips and filmed some clips in Austria, Germany, Spain and Croatia. He currently has no bike sponsor, but it never stopped him from doing what he loves, riding his bicycle. His love for the sport drives him more than anything and he wants to thank everyone that let him crash on a couch, showed him around or simply helped him out along the way. You can stay connected with Walter via his instagram account.

Was glad to see that he finally ended the video with some real pants on.

Imagine how must fun it must be to get shinners wearing thigh tight cut off jeans
  • 10 2
Bah, shinbang don't matter cause when you get it bad enough, your body auto-numbs it up and you still look like a badass with blood spewing out the ol leg.

Was glad to see Everyrider10 was able to comfortably watch the end of this video.

What's with all the negativity in the comments? If you don't like watching street edits shut up and don't watch them, no one is interested in hearing you little girls cry.

Walter is an amazing rider and an awesome guy! Rode with him several time and he crashed my couch aswell when he was in The Netherlands.
I have big respect for Walter! Nice edit too!

Welcome to Pink Bike, the home of the armchair 'know-it-all' designers, riders, builders, engineers, and do it better than they do'ers.

@hank - you call that a comment? Man I can post a better comment than that typing with my nose! Smile
  • 4 1
Hank, you're certainly right, but do you remember what happened when Protour was right about chainstay length on Gwin's machine?

 @mattin & @hankbrowne
thanks for your comments.
i am not the biggest fan of street-riding but the video and riding was good.
i dont get what all the comments about clothes are about. did i miss something and pinkbike is now a fashion blog?

it´s all about opions and not giving everyone, who invests time and money in a video or photo, a hard time. if no one would make videos or ride, what would i be watching when i can´t ride myself?

Needs narrower bars or something... Good riding though!
  • 2 0
but its not cool unless you have two inches of bar showing beyond where you grip the bars
  • 17 6
would you guys just cut your damn bars down.
  • 16 10
These punks need narrower bars man.
  • 1 0
Why narrower bars for easier bar spins? Next you'll be saying shrink your wheels. I like the increased level of difficulty of wider bars bigger wheels no brakes etc. Not that I'd have the balls to do so. What are these guys wrists made of taking these huck to flats let alone when they crash?

 lol punks?
  • 1 0
im pretty sure he just likes the feel of his hand butted up against the flange. he should just cut his grips.

I know what I'm doing this afternoon, riding the ol street bike strait to the local Uni for some fun in the sun until security put down their donuts, waddle over and chase me away.

ide love to see a real street mtb edit again. meaning ide love to see someone riding a mountain bike (not a bmx bike whose wheels grew too big) over a massive stair flat stair or sending a roof drop. im not trying to say people cant ride their bikes however they want, but mountain bikers come to pink bike to watch mountain bike videos (moto is cool too) and this simply isnt mountain biking in any shape or form.

Also whats up with no brakes? still trying to see the benefit of that
  • 2 0
Brakeless is lighter and it feels good to do barspins without having to worry about brake lever and hose getting in the way. That's about it.
  • 2 0
no brakes makes it a lot harder to birch out of stuff at the last minute, it makes line choice more important for controlling speed, etc. i wouldnt say it has too many benefits, but it certainly makes for a different riding experience. i tried it, put my brake back on after a couple weeks. can be fun, but also very terrifying. i prefer my dj/street bike with two brakes, the more control the better, but to each their own.

i appreciate the balanced response lester. ive also rode no brakes. i did for a few years when a rode bmx. but then when i realized i was never going to be able to do more than 1 barspin i put it back on

Dont like the stiff riding style and brakeless bikes are just a bad idea.
  • 6 5
Why are street bikes always brakeless? I own one, and am really glad about my rear brake...

  • 21 12
nah but i can expect better from a pro vid
  • 14 1
he has no sponsor though sooo not really a pro rider
  • 7 0
Yeah Walter is a really cool and super fanatic rider who rides 100% for fun (just like me and you, but with much more skills). Can't compare him to pro slopestyle riders who's job is to ride their bike full-time for a living. He's rather the fun hobby cyclist with some crazy skills who still shreds at a pro level, and belongs in the top 1% of best mtb street riders IMO.
Big respect for him!
  • 3 6
pro or not.....imagine how much better he would go with a 24 inch rear wheel.....just saying....nice vid though.....bmx/mountain bike/road bike-it is all riding-just be happy for f*cks sake.
