I worked in the bike industry in some way or another for over 11 years, been a rider in one way or another since I was 15. Started out with XC went into Freeride and did a few local DH races. I rode street and even some trials. Today, most my riding is done as a commuter and I work in a very different field, far from the bike shops I lost interest in. As it is, the most fun I have related to bikes, is riding with my kids and watching them progress.

There are pictures of the STR here as well, you have seen it. I dont know, bolt action is easier to shoot well with, but the Mk12 is nice too, and it is quicker, both to handle and to get a follow up shot if needed.
I guess the nice part is that I dont have to choose as I have both and each fills its role.

@road-cyclist: The hardest part is always the wind, and at +1000 meters, the wind matters a lot.
On a good day the DD does about a 3-3.5" 10 shot group at 300 meters, from prone position. My Sauer STR can keep it down to less than 2". Not all day every day like some would like to make you believe.
I know about your diagnosis and its a real bummer, in many ways. But you seem to be able to have a good every day life, and that is great. Dont worry about the military, I never did any service either, several friends did and many of them thinks it sucked.

@road-cyclist: Thank you! There is a national standard on the gun ranges in Sweden, they are usually 300 meters long. It might seem long when you first visit one, but it can be masterd quite fast and especially with modern rifles with optical sights. Most ranges were built after or around WW2 when the standard was iron sights.
If one wants to shoot further still, the only viable option for a long time was to start compeating, which I did 11 years ago. The furthest range that I have shot at on a competition was 1250 meters. I dont have a hit at that distance, but it is doable. You just need good fundamentals and know your gear. This can be practiced at any range.

Yeah, I am also a sucker for marksmen type rifles. I have had a few through the years and have done some of the best competitions in Sweden (and one in Norway) with them.

@road-cyclist: I know, I just kept going on that line of thought.
The SR25 is kind of like a predecessor of the Mk12, its bigger, heavier and shoots the .308 winchester. I would really like to get something close to it, but I dont really have a need for one.
The Mk12 is the missing link between the standard M16 infantry rifle and the SR25 used at the beginning of the 21 century. I wrote an article about it for the webpage I do freelance stuff for.

@gunnargritzka: I use size 11 gloves so also on the large side. I like the B5 grip 22 and 23, but the dont look quite right on a build like this.
