Replay: Cape Epic 2019 Stage 1

Mar 17, 2019
by Pinkbike Staff

The first stage of the Cape Epic starts today with a 112 kilometres course with 2,700 metres of climbing. A tough day of riding will see racers tackle loose rocky surfaces as they spend most of the route ascending.

As with yesterdays prologue riders will have the Land Rover Technical Terrain challenge to look forward to. Set in the final 15 kilometres of the course riders will at least get to enjoy the fact that they get a rest from climbing. Take a look at a preview of the challenge below.

Avancini: "To be honest, it would be nice to have some microphones on the bikes. And then people could see who is the real Nino. I’m going to try to show it little by little"...

Something is definitely brewing...he also made some comments after the Prologue.... something to the effect that Nino is selfish and doesn't really work with his team mate... that he just powers along and puts the hurt on his team mate, rather than working as a team.

@brumos: think Avancini implied Nino might blow the doors of Lars without knowing it.
Good response from Nino as it’s seems the cannondale guys didn’t want to have a turn on the front. Can’t wait for the WC season to start! Smile

@brumos: I've always thought Nino is a champion who doesn't have the charisma of a champion. He doesn't look friendly (and backstage, some say he is not particularly friendly with others...), and he looks rather boring outside the bike.
I mean, of course he's the best, but as a spectator, I'd rather watch a funny and smiling 2nd or 3rd rider like Fumic or VDP, than a rigid Swiss with no real image.

Yeah, an interesting watch for sure.

aside from the sports drama, let's talk about how good of an idea a live behind-the-bars camera feed from a chasing e-bike is for the sport (especially marathon/stage racing)

Well Nino normally races to win, so it must be hard to race as a team. Given Nino is the fastest, the others dont have to actually beat him, just beat Ninos team mate.

turns out Ninos team mate might be stronger than anyone else

At least we heard what the real Avancini said...

I mean if Nino is not the greatest of all time because of his mouth... If Avancini doesn't like it, he can try to beat him with his legs. Just seems like a sore loser.
