PRESS RELEASE: Allies Mountain Bike Festival, Simpcw First Nation, Chu Chua | April 29th-May 1st, 2022

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We recognize and honour the people of the Simpcw First Nation on whose traditional unceded lands we live, work and play.

Simpcw is a division of the Secwepemc, or Shuswap, Nation. The territory extends from south of Vinsulla and north to Kakwa Park, from west of Goat River and east of Jasper, including the Big Bend of the Columbia River and northern Adams Lake, from south of Squam Bay.

EVENT INFO

The Simpcw First Nation in partnership with the Indigenous Youth Mountain Bike Program and First Journey Trails are inviting you to attend the Allies Mountain Bike Festival. This event is a festival centered around learning, listening and riding.

So what is the Allies Mountain Bike Festival?
The festival is two days long featuring shuttles, campfires, a movie premiere, hikes, food, and camping.

The Allies Mountain Bike Festival is the first of its kind, a festival vibe to bring people together to learn, listen, ride and connect.

The Simpcw First Nation are proud of the trails and the accomplishments of their youth and community trail builders and are excited to share them with the world.
Starting Friday afternoon with a blessing from Simpcw elders, the festival will include group rides and fun on the trails built by the youth and membership of the Simpcw First Nation. With more than fifteen kilometres of trails there is a broad range of trail categories including beginner to advanced and suitable for all riders.

Everyone is welcome! Indigenous and non-Indigenous. The goal is to bring people together to ride in solidarity and for the love of trails and mountain biking. Hikers, dog-walkers and trail runners are also encouraged to attend and participate! There will also be a BBQ on site throughout the day on Saturday, a community meal and celebration along with a viewing of mountain bike films.

What's the price to attend?
There is no price to attend the event, however, food, beverages and camping are by donation.

Tom, Patrick, Thomas and the whole Simpcw First Nation community are breaking ground and planting seeds of change right here. I’ve been mountain biking for 30 years and this is the first event like this I have EVER heard of. Support this however you can, show up, have fun, ride, bond, and let’s imagine a world where this kind of event is celebrated, supported, and the wide ranging positive impacts it will have across communities becomes the norm in our sport. So amazing.

Awesome trails and even better people. I stop in at Chu Chua every time I'm driving through after a tour from some of the locals a few years ago. Super inspiring. Keep it up!

I had a chance to ride with members of the Simpcw Nation at Chu Chua back in 2018. Amazing team and an awesome network even back then. It's great to see what they have been able to do with it since. Good luck with the event!
