why do GT frames always have excess tube that sticks out just below the seat clamp facing the tire???? serves no other purpose other than making the bike look prehistoric.

I think its something to do with the strength, the way that the top tube doesn't just stop against the seat tube, disperses some of the force and flex around it. Just something I heard, not entirely sure how true it is, something a bit different anyway, and I've gotta say, I for one wouldn't complain about something like that if I was given one of those bikes Wink Beer

"why do GT frames always have excess tube that sticks out just below the seat clamp facing the tire???? "

I think it's a nice touch, goes back to the day when all GT hardtails had the 'triple triangle' feature. Also it means that a GT frame is immediately recognisable as a GT frame, something some manufacturers lack

GT has been doing that with their frames before Gary Turner even called his company GT in the 1970's.

I loved my GT's back in the 90's. Anything newer that I have ridden has been heavy. Like always I bet this race was 90% rider 10% bike.
