Propain Dreckspatz - 20 Kids Hardtail

Visitors of the Eurobike may have already caught a glimpse of the new 20“ kids hardtail Dreckspatz. Besides the Frechdax full suspension bike, it completes Propain’s range of high-end kid’s bikes with a more affordable hardtail.

Propain Dreckspatz - 20 Kids Hardtail

For all those kids who spend their riding time in a bike park or already try themselves out in rather technical terrain, the full suspension model Frechdax is probably the best option. For all others, who just need a light, strong and reliable kids bike to ride the trails next door or hit the local pump track, the new Dreckspatz is the perfect choice. Being super light and very pedal efficient the Dreckspatz hardtail is easy to handle and a real skill booster for the kids.

A light weight is essential for a great kids bike as a difference of just a few hundred grams can be felt by the young feather light shredders. Therefore Propain optimized the tubing of the new Dreckspatz to lower the frame weight to only 1.300g.

Equally important as the frame is the choice of the right components. As the offerings for lightweight kids components are still rather limited, Propain simply started their own kids component series to match the quality of their frames. Under the brand name "1st Ride“, Propain offers a lightweight carbon suspension fork, cranksets, handlebars, stems and wheelsets.

The weight of the high-end Dreckspatz Race is around 8.8kg. Prices for a complete bike start at 899€. Propain now offers the Dreckspatz in their online store in two different builds and two different color options, green and blue.

Really good to see some properly thought out kids' bike on the market. I always feel a bit daft riding around on a 160mm AM rig alongside my 3 year old on his clunker that feels like it weighs nearly as much.

I'm just waiting for a similar bike with 16" wheels. Kids don't have enough strength to use v-brakes on longer descents.

@pakleni: I put some old magura HS33 on the bike. Helps ALOT! Also possible to get the lever very close to the bars.

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a plus-bike hard tail with an enormously large seat. Need to learn to read the titles first...

Don't worry about it, it's a bloke thing. I can't read a whole article without my mind wandering. It's a bit like the infamous 'man-look'.... apparently when you look for something, say on the fridge, it works better if you move other shit out the way !! what the f*cks that all about?

It is a massive seat though ??

I know it will never happen but fork company's need to make some folks that actually fit the wheels on these kinds of bikes or even 24inch bikes. I mean i know it sounds wired but i cant stand a huge fork gap and you would kinda hope that for the money you pay for one of these bikes that the forlks would look right. not hating i think its great that they are making kids bikes just though it was worth mentioning.

For my daughter I modified an Isla Beinn 20 Small with riser bars from an old Cannondale (wider and higher than originals) and 20'' Schwalbe Black Jacks for more grip and bounce and she still fits it at age 9. Shes pretty tall.

Its a nippy bike and handles small jumps too. No shocks but at that age its good practice and makes lifting the front end lighter

Yes, thats is good to see bikes designed for kids, with lower weight, suspenion that works under 20kg rider etc.
Thats for sure. But because of small market for such a bikes - prices are too high imo (for the spec). I hope that will change soon :-)

I have my daughter on an Isla Bike.....light and small everything for little hands, No suspension tho, but then she's not ready for the parks just yet at 5.
£350 for a 20" bike.....not bad I reckon
These look the bomb tho..

There's one thing that propain and commencal get when it comes to kids bikes: short chainstays. Good luck teaching your kids to bunnyhop with all the other stuff on the market...

indeed, but on the trail it gives confidence on higher speeds.

was about to say the price is a bit high but a carbon suspension fork is decent. it looks like it should last. saddle is far too big though no?

oh and surely it wont climb well and will not get over any bumps on the trails with such small wheels (sarcasm)

My lads have had a propain frechdax 20" for 3 years, it is a really really good well made bike, I can't praise it enough. If these are anywhere near as good then it's a fair price i'd say. How much do they weigh?

 just looked it up...8.6kg

Can we please have a long term test with Vernon Felton using this as his daily for a year?

£1600 for the kids 24" fully its still too much we need to set up lend lease for kids bikes they cost way too much and grow out of them too quick also
