While it is fun to watch, speed and style has never really made sense to me. They can't go the fastest and they can't throw the biggest/coolest tricks. Its some weird amalgamation of them both while not being the best at either....sorta like triathlon. Additionally, the scoring is both based on the quantitative metric of time but then brings in the subjective element of grading tricks....idk, just an odd format.

It absolutely doesn't make sense but it's fun watching speed vs. style, which is possibly what it should have been called.

Agreed. I never watch it anymore. I did try, a few times. But it just doesn't interest me. A very poor amalgam of two opposing sports, that in isolation are mesmerising.

Mechem might have won the slopestyle with those runs. And holy moly the speed he maintained despite some shonky landings. What a rider. This is one hardcore mountain bike discipline.
