@justanotherusername: No, the Olympics are NOT meant to represent the sport as accessible and fun. The Olympics are meant to showcase the best of the best competing at the highest possible level and difficulty. Its to showcase to the world what is possible for humans to achieve and strive for. You think Surfing is being held in Tahiti to show 'accessibility and fun' that everyone can surf? No, its to challenge the athletes and give them the best possible conditions otherwise they would have surfed smaller stuff off the coast of France. No one is asking for hardline, just a course that is representative of these athletes skill and professionalism.

Pinkbike Primer - Everything You Need to Know Ahead of the Paris Olympics MTB XC
Coming after Tokyo which had a pretty representative, advanced course in terms of technicality, difficulty etc. this is a let down. I know its partly due to available terrain but with sports such as Sailing in Marseille, surfing in Tahiti etc. they could have moved this course a bit further from Paris and taken advantage of some amazing courses that the French have in their mountainous regions.

@vinay: What are you talking about? The OP was saying all the pics were terrible, I was saying they are from Olympics checkin. I wasnt commenting on rac, background color etc. so im not sure why you're coming at me? PB probably got the check in photos and ran with it and that athlete may not have checked in yet at that time. You really think they did that on purpose?

The diff in average ages between men and women is also really interesting. Just noticed the SIGNIFICANT amount of year 2000+ birth dates for Women vs men. Makes sense given women develop earlier, just interesting to see.

The guy is a top 3 most well known athlete across the world and likely top 5 all time. Not sure you can get a better spokesperson, regardless of whether you like him or not, unless they wrangle Messi or Ronaldo. Dude has been buying bikes for kids in Akron for years, constantly endorses efforts to grow kids in sport etc etc. Pretty dang good face to have associated with this.

Pinkbike Poll: Are XC Courses Getting Too Gnarly?
Things will even out. Some courses will toe the line and get concerns, commentary etc. which will inform future courses. Most riders seem to be onboard with the shift towards more technicality. This weekend isn't helped by the rain but without my guess is almost every rider will have adapted to the course and figured it out. We just happened to see the select cases where riders were crashing in the early stages of practice.

Social Round Up: After the Rain at the Crans Montana XC World Cup
What 'roadies' have come in and dominated? If you say MVDP and Pidcock you're dead wrong. They were the best of the best in cyclocross well before touching the road. i.e. they have insanely good bike handling skills to match their endurance which plays well in mtb. Pauline has always done a mix of road/cyclocross and mtb and is probably one of the best all around riders on the planet.

@Ginsu2000: Yeah the dominant U23s definitely seem to come around more often for sure. Then it takes them a little while to warm up in elites
