Who could explain tricks better than Mr. Sam Pilgrim, official FMB World Tour Champion 2013 / owner of a golden water bottle?
No, seriously, Sam is known to be a super funny dude and his self made "
how to" video series has been appreciated by a lot of riders. So ION joined forces with Sam, got the "
Dirt Hangar" indoor spot for one week, built a black wall, rented some daylight cinema lights, added two FS700 cameras for higher frame rate, and sessioned for two nights to present you with a state of the art trictionary series. We hope this first one helps you dial in your Tailwhips.

No words about :
-Learning the motions on the ground first
-choice of the kicking foot (kicking with the backfoot makes it easier). For kicking with the front foot you have to move your feet back and kick the back of your bike which takes more time and makes it a bit harder to learn.
-getting the second foot on the pedal can be quite hard because it feels like the bike is pushing your catching leg away to far. For me this was more a mental problem, just put more strength into the catching leg and the bike won't move too much anymore.
Etc etc.
Theres so much more to this trick than just staying over the bike (which is very important too!)
It's certainly happening to me with ION and their constant appearances on these pages, be it for an uninteresting photoshoot, a t-shirt "review" or the drivel above, which is at least designated as sponsored content.
The still image above pretty much says it all, they spend more effort on lighting and focusing on their logo than on the rider in the background, which is the current pinkbike in a nutshell. Yes, there is interesting content on here from time to time, but it seems that the majority of articles here are bought by the industry, sometimes more, sometimes less obvious to the reader.
But content like a trictionary or a fantasy contest (Vienna Air King in April), are in our opinion good stuff for all readers.
And on each news Thread, you see where it is coming from, at the very top: by.....
For the still image: It's a screenshot, we had no photographer on site, and we really put a lot of effort into the lightling, and just couldn't do it better. If Sam was wearing white only, he would have had the same result. The highlighting of the logo was not on purpose (we just had to put a light under the launch ramp, otherwise the result for Sams vsisibility would have been worse).
PS:
for the content you named before:
- Uninteresting photoshoot: if you mean the 2014 bike apparel overview? We still think it is better than other posts about other brands that just show studio shots of the products.
- The drirelease tee review: It's a tech tee, and discussion was done on already in this thread.
To be very honest: it just sucks putting a lot of effort, time & enegry in a project with a very very restricted budget like this video series (even if it might not look like it) and all you get is hate.

To be very honest, I'm pretty sure these things aren't done for shits and giggles or out of altruistic motives - which is totally fine - but maybe there is a saturation point for content marketing like this after which more brand exposure actually has adverse effects (but this is probably just my grumpy self).
For two set ups: one for the double, one for the quarter.
For the upcoming webisodes we will try to improove. Let's see, if we can stick to the explanations from Sam that we shot on site, or maybe get some extra soundbits and details from him afterwards, to be able to go more into detail.
Thanks for the input!
