Savona to Williams Lake - Part 3

A three-part photo story - by Margus Riga

For the last day of our trip, we wanted to highlight the awesomeness of the local trails in Williams Lake. And what better guide to have than James Doerfling, a true born and bred Williams Laker.

Pictures inside,

View Part 2 Here.

photo
First stop after breakfast was James Doerfling's new zone. Just drop in and hang the F&%$ on.
Sick, but we'll save these for another day and another trip.

photo
Next we hit up some wooden kickers in the forest on Slater Mountain. The kickers were a little rickety, and the landings were about ten feet too short, but the Birch tree backdrop sure made up for the shit jumps. James and Ross hit this kicker to god awful landing six times, until James smashed his head on the ground from over shooting the landing by a lot. Apparently the trail leading back to town after these initial kickers is better than the kickers lead on.

photo
After making sure James' head wasn't all concussed, we headed to the Fox Mountain Trail network area to hit arguably the funnest trail in Williams Lake: A Flow.

photo
This trail should be called Mad Flow. Or wait, maybe that's what A Flow means. If you know, let me know.

photo
Throw in some high speed, sinewy singletrack. Add a heaping spoonful of bermed corners, and sprinkle with some medium to large size gaps, and you have what could be the perfect trail.

photo
Doerfling, so happy not to have a concussion, he just can't keep his wheels on the ground.

photo
Insert Tippie joke here. I'm all out.

photo
The two reasons why everyone from Williams Lake is so freakin' good. 1. The trails 2. The trails.

photo
I'll let the trail do the talking from here.

Beer. The Gatorade of Williams Lake.

It's hard to know where you're going...

...unless you know where you've been. Thank you Williams Lake for putting life and riding in their proper places...on top.

Now I don't care what were your reasons behind this illustrated article, whether you guys just wanted to share your joy or to promote the area. It just woke up a raging monster of jelaousy and despair in me! How come in this certain part of the world trails can be so good?

You must have some kind of those laborous gnomes and trolls building these marvels of trail riding? Send some to us here in Sweden! Can we buy them somewhere? or just hire? We promise to feed them well here, and give them good social wellfare.

I'm pretty sure that 99.2 percent of these could be POD just saying

Yeah man> Just show up to the rear of the shop and chat the guys up in the basement. Gustoff and the guys ride most every day after work. Met them last summer and rode for the better part of a month. Heading back this year is on my list too. Way to sick out there.

Great photos.... nice to see my favourite trail featured on PinkBike, I pretty much ride Aflow 5 days/week. Every riding day in Williams Lake for me just has to include a rip down this super flowy and fun trail. Aflow is part of the Fox Mountain trails network (30+ trails) and is now
covered by our trails agreement. If you're heading to Williams Lake to ride Aflow make sure you access it via "AK 89". You can get trail maps and info or find shuttle partners at our LBS: Red Shred's.

5 star report right there and crazy nice pics. WL is on my personnal to-do list this summer. Does Red Shreds organises shuttles on week-ends ?

Hey TLKDPRO, no organized shuttles, but the shop is open on Sat. and it's the best way to meet shuttle partners. Usually there's someone looking to share rides/shuttles or Mark will call around for you. In the summer months its not an issue to find someone to ride with.
If you come to town on a Sunday, just park at the South End of town at the "Laughing Loon" and most likely you'll run into other riders.
