PRESS RELEASE: Steve Peats' Bikes & Beers Speaker Tour

As one of the greatest men’s downhill mountain bike racers of all time and a genuine superstar of the sport, Steve Peat needs little introduction as he brings the story of his life and career to 21 stages across the UK, from Falmouth to Inverness, in his debut ‘audience with…’ style tour, Bikes and Beers, presented by adrenaline-sport speaker specialists, Speakers from the Edge and in association with Santa Cruz Bicycles, Troy Lee Designs and Peaty’s Products.

bigquotesIt's funny how I probably feel more nervous for this than I would be dropping into a World Cup track!!Steve Peat

Starting out on his racing career in the early 1990s, an era when mountain bike racers would party as hard as they rode, Steve went on to become the 2009 UCI DH World Champion, three-time World Cup Champion, nine-time British National Champion and two-time European Champion. He is one of the most enduring downhill racing careers, which saw him win 17 World Cup races and reach the World Cup podium 52 times, over two decades at the Elite level

This year saw Steve inducted into the MTB Hall of Fame in the first time of eligibility and his influence on the sport cannot be overstated, as his involvement in the development of everything from clothing to young riders continues

Away from the race track, particularly in the years when racers weren’t quite as strict as they are today with their training, nutrition and fitness regimes, Steve was always at the centre of the notorious wild post-race parties, along with the likes of Rob Warner and Shaun Palmer, creating a vast number of anecdotes that today’s racers can only dream about with envy

In Bikes and Beers, Steve tells the story of his illustrious racing career; the bikes, the World Cups, the parties and the pursuit of the seemingly elusive World Championship title which some thought might never come, won in style in 2009. He will take audiences along the journey that saw him rise from plumbing to podiums and become one of the most successful men’s downhill racers of all time, showing just how the man who wouldn’t back down earned his place as a legend in the sport of mountain biking

Steve's Bikes and Beers are touring UK theatres, from Tuesday the 16th of October to Friday the 23rd of November. To book tickets or for further details, visit www.speakersfromtheedge.com

Will, you sure you have 15 friends?

I'd go to the Inverness one but I'll have seen SLAYER the night before so there's probably no point...

Steve Peat hates the north east - confirmed

Not at all... we tried really hard to get a venue there, but none of the suitable ones could do the right dates... we were gutted, as was Steve! Next time hopefully

@DC0040: I run a venue in Newcastle called Boiler Shop, could work well here..
  • 3 0
@Uncled: We didn't know about the Boiler Shop... our apologies! A 450 capacity venue would be the perfect size for most of our tours too... unfortunately it's too late for this one as we've used all of Steve's available dates now, but if you want to drop us an email on info@speakersfromtheedge.com, we'd love to chat about future tours

Good few of us heading down too... Peaty in our little city is a must see!

@desman75: Might spread the word for us...? Several of the shows are heading for a sell-out, but Lincoln's the lowest turnout so far
  • 2 0
@DC0040: I've give quite a few shout outs on facebook, but will get on it again. Lincoln is just small unfortunately, I was pleasantly surprised I wasn't having to travel to Sheff to see the legend in his own backyard to be honest.
Theres a few Lincolnshire mountain biker groups I will go spread the word on again. Most of my mtb friends are coming though!

@desman75: Thanks very much for giving it a plug, much appreciated - if we can make it work there, it means we can justify bringing more of these shows to Lincoln in the future... it's a great little venue!

 No London visit? Frown
  • 3 0
Unfortunately not... the cost of hiring a venue makes it hard to just break even in London! Why not head out to the Horsham, High Wycombe or Chelmsford shows, take your bike and make a day of it by going for a ride before the show...? You might just bump into us around the Surrey Hills on the day of the Horsham show...

@DC0040: yeah fair comment, can imagine how expensive that would be.
Shame, would be a perfect after work event.

Chelmsford might work. Thanks for the quick response @DC0040 .

@priceye36: No worries... hope you can make it out, should be a good night! We toured Hans Rey last November - as he was the first pro-rider to do one of these tours, we only booked 10 venues just to see if people would be interested... we sold-out five or six and the atmosphere at each one was brilliant! We even had one guy buy two tickets; one for him and one for his old GT frame he wanted Hans to sign!!

I'm not going to Crawsham, no organic hand-smashed avocado, no drill, no Ofo bikes, it's a cultural void. There are _hundreds_ of perfect pub-based theatres in town. Just don't go near the middle bit.
  • 1 0
@Steventux: You mean Horsham? No, you're right... just the best riding trails in the South East on the doorstep instead!
  • 2 0
@DC0040: Haha no Crawsham is the local name for the near-conjoined towns of Crawley and Horsham.
If I don't make the event I'll be in Surrey Hills, love it there.
  • 2 0
@DC0040: any ideas roughly what time and where in the surrey hills your going out from? Sounds like a sick day!
  • 2 0
@drfunsocks: We're not entirely sure yet, but if we make it, it's likely to be mid-morning from Peaslake - we can't make it an 'official' thing for liability reasons
  • 2 0
@Steventux: Good man - they're our regular trails too!
  • 3 0
@DC0040: cheers mate. Peaslake is the usual place to park for me. Hopefully ill see you there!
