Video: Goldstein Productions - ''Art of Amazing'' Short Film

Sep 21, 2014
by Goldstein Productions

Four years ago we had the pleasure of partnering with the Whistler Mountain Bike Park and Origin to bring their first video campaign, Elements of Perfection, to life through video. Throughout the next three seasons we were fortunate to have the freedom to experiment with new filming techniques within one of the best mountain biking locations in the world. We got to play with heli shoots at the Peak, learn how to 'extreme-run' through alpine terrain with a MōVI in hand, and release 4K resolution pieces online.

If you wondered where those long cablecam-like shots came from it s the M VI. Peter and Brock work away to get it balanced perfectly.

Although this year’s campaign, "In The Zone", was released in three parts, we had the intention of piecing them all together to work as one cohesive piece in the end. Now, “In The Zone” is bringing the bike park experience to the San Francisco Bay area at the Mill Valley Film Festival in October 2014. As part of Sharp’s Art of Amazing competition, “In The Zone” will be showcased next month alongside 200 U.S. and international films by independent artists.

The competition also has a voter’s choice award. Each time you vote, you are entered to win a 70” Sharp 4K TV! If you’re a fan of mountain biking and want to help bring our sport to an even wider audience, make sure to vote every day until October 8th:

Wow a masterpiece of cinematography! (not that I would expect something else from Goldstein Productions) I'd love to see some behind the scenes footage.

2:45 made me smile like a mentally slow person who just heard a knock-knock joke. This is amazing - and I don't even have 720p, let alone 2160p.

Great production. I'd much rather watch something without such a dramatic effect, because mountain biking is anything but dramatic (unless it's racing). The best videos, in my opinion, are the ones where we see riders absolutely killing a trail, with no music, in real time, and with awesome shots along the way.

I do agree that great edits can be made with no sound, and fun edits are always awesome, but biking is very dramatic. From the way your tires slip and slide into a corner as you skip across roots, to the profound impact the sport has on our lives. A beautiful film like that deserves that sort of music, It is there to help evoke emotion. Although your artistic preferences may not line up with the producer, I believe this movie embodies the feel of riding for many of us.

Yeah, well, that's just like, your opinion, man.

Personally, I can see both your points. I feel like for the Garbo and TotW sections, the drama works quite well, due to the fog and epic views. But I feel that the Fitz part is more serious than it needs to be - the vibe on Fitz is so high energy, and always feels like a party, whereas the video doesn't do justice to that feeling. Amazing footage though, especially on the peak.

I really enjoyed it (even the blinks parts). I think the drama / intensity of the dh and the flow of the am matched perfect, for me (IMO) it catches the ETHOS of our sport, I'd watch it again for sure

Too blinky. Why do film editors think it's remotely arty to induce an epileptic seizure in innocent viewers?

Wow I must say, pretty visually stunning to watch in 4k! Next level follow cam action as well!

absolutely fantastic. the music choice was top top quality.

I love riding... but this just feels like a regular edit with Philip Glass instead of Dubstep.

And any "art" competition is going to discount it off the bat because it feels like a commercial for Giant... which it basically is.
