Nooooo!!!!! Ben Cathro spreading misinformation about the speed of sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Counting seconds between lightening and thunder -> 1 second DOES NOT equal a mile.

Sound does not travel a mile a second. Moving at about 340 meters per second is about a thousand feet per second.

5 SECONDS EQUALS ONE MILE.

Spread the word people. Why has this become such a commonly mistaken basic fact!?!?!?!?

Sincerely, one very annoyed physics teacher.

But what if the French downhill rider is travelling towards the incoming storm at 74km/hr?

@UPBike speed of sound is 343m/s at sea level at 20C. Les Gets is above 1000m so is going to be slower.

Glad I was never in your physics class (laughing Biology teacher)
