Video: Remy Metailler Hits Mount Prevost's Steep & Fast Tracks

by Rémy Métailler

If you follow downhill racing or just mountain biking in general you will be familiar with the names Finn Iles, Mark Wallace, Jackson Goldstone, Kirk McDowall, Gracey Hermstreet, Magnus Manson etc, and you would have heard about a place called Prevost.

That's because Prevost is the training ground of many of these Canadian racers, and was where Stevie Smith trained for years. Located on Vancouver Island just south of Nanaimo, Mt Prevost has become a hub for downhill mountain biking. Easy to shuttle with fast, steep and gnarly tracks, it's got everything to produce some fun, but also get riders to become faster and faster and ready to go racing World Cups.

Jump on board on a day of riding with local legend Dean Tennant as I try to learn the trails.

Big shout out to www.cowichantrails.ca for the maintenance and work on this mountain.

Follow @remymetailler and @deantennantmtb for more.

Great video, thanks for always being a great ambassador and tour guide Dean, looks like Remy was super stoked.

We are now about to officially sanction Swuq'us (Mt Prevost) as part of our parks and trails master plan here at Municipality of North Cowichan. The trails fall within our municipal forest reserve and Council & Staff realize what an amazing MTB asset this is to locals, visitors and professional athletes alike, thus the investment and official sanctioning.

Watch for more updates on Trailforks for trail reroutes and adjustments as well as the new sign posts, trailhead kiosk, new parking lots and shuttle pickup/dropoff points.

If you do ride here, don't forget to leave some trail karma for CTSS (Cowichan Trail Stewardship Society) that works in partnership with North Cowichan to keep the trail stoke high!

Prevost is overrated, you should steer clear. The fast dh tracks and big jumps do not leave you smiling ear to ear and are just not as fun as Whistler Bike Park where you should go.

(Yes I am gatekeeping from across the border.)

omg this video reminds me of the best 2 days in my life riding over there, what amazing trails already back in 2016. Amazing community around Stevie that welcomed me alone on the other side of the world just to try Stevie's trails and drink a couple of beers together. Cheers from Italy!

Leaving Stevie Smith out of that list of riders in the description feels wrong.
