@joecrosby: To achieve optimum balance will be a futile attempt if running suspension components that are of an unequal performance level and or substantial difference in travel rendered. The best way to achieve this balance is, pairing front and rear with suspension of equal or very close in travel with adjustments that will allow the user to dial in the balance. My bikes usually have equal performance level suspension and are 20mm more in frt than rear with the balance as close together as i can get it without a Shox Wiz. for the majority of stuff i'm riding, due to the spring rate and compression clicks i run. Until i hit really steep fast runs with drops, ruts and G-outs...it instantly becomes overwhelmed and unbalanced, as it needs a stiffer spring rate and independent high speed compression and rebound during this point of a ride.. but not for the majority of trail during the same ride. So to set the bike up to handle the aggressive steeps at speed, i would run more air pressure and back of on rebound and compression but this tune would not suffice on the majority of trail and cause to harsh of a ride, unless i'm pushing very hard all the time on every ride, which is not a reality.

But for goodness sakes, make sure you wear eye protection when filling your funnel full of water!
