That's an old photo, that is me 4 years ago at the south Australian state champs! Still have the scars from that. The first generation 224 frames were weak as piss and the top tube never actually met the head tube, they relied on that thin sheet metal to connect the two together :-/ that's why alot snapped. But with warranty it was like trying to get blood from a stone with the importers. The warranty replacement it's indestructible and I've had it for 3 and a half years, the top tube meets the head tune one the one I have ha.ha.
Thats not a orange, its someones cheap fake copy cat, that someone thought was the real deal, and then rode it, thus from all the extreme biking it broke, of course that same "extreme" biking would not be enought to kill a real orange bike frame, i am disgusted someone copied there frame and color design "tsk tsk tsk"
Exactly the same thing happened to a friend of mine off a little 1.5 foot drop in our local woods. One of the welds hadn't penetrated properly and Orange put their hands up as said "our fault, we f*cked up. Sorry, are you OK, have a new frame."
I know of plenty of frame manufacturers that wouldn't be so honest. I'll not mention any names. Except Foes of course.
Yeah but the thing is orange take pride to hand make every frame sold and you rearly see a orange snap / fail in like some compainies, not naming no names "kona" cough, who will ignor it and say it was rider error... hmm isnt anny damage rider error ??
Well, no. Not all damage is rider error as I outlined above. The frame failed on him because it had been incorrectly built, not because the rider made an error, but because the welder did had.. But I agree with you that Orange build quality frames that will generally stand the test of time. In fact, I still have my first ever DH bike which was an Orange Clockwork hardtail from 1992!
And I don't think that Kona's are badly made at all, but they are marketed to appeal to a certain 'type' of rider.. I don't like to stereotype but every time I see someone on a Kona, it's being ragged to within an inch of it's life with no finesse what-so-ever!
fair point i cant explain how i mena by rider error but like i no what i mean if you get me i worded it wrong, and yeah i had a Orange MRo for manny years then upgraded it to run a 8 inch shock was a beaut of a bike
