my new rig after first ride. intense 951, '09 888ATA WC, RC4, hadley hubs, mtx 33 rims, XT drivetrain, raceface cranks, formula the ONE brakes, sunline V1 saddle, LG1+ guide
rear end feels good! its very supple and active but doesn't bottom or blow through travel like they say. you may run a slightly higher spring rate than other bikes but it works excellent
they dont make a short cage for XT. only mid or long. thats the mid. this is the '09 888 ATA (problems fixed) it feels better than my '06 888RC2X ever did so im stoked with it. 40's need too much servicing. especially when riding every day
Thats because the 40 is a dry fork and is meant for the uber abuse, sure its a downside but i've never had a 40 fail on me. Zocchis are good because you basically never have to service them, though the new once i've had the replace seals on after super super light riding, so i was not at all impressed. But the new 2010 zocchis look like they're going give alot of companys some competition. And i never said get a short cage XT i just said get a short cage derail, nothing specific.
yeah the 2010 zocchi stuff looks really good from what i've heard so far. i've only had to replace seals once on my old 888 and i had it for 3 years. time will tell with my new fork but hopefully it will hold up. the 40 just run so little oil in their cartridge that it gets burnt up so quick, requiring a service fairly often to keep them feeling real good. i dont consider that failure just a characteristic of its design.
True, But the Fox 40 is very performance bound, thus why it has to be constantly rebuilt with new oil and such. The 40's only run 50cc's or oil in each leg, where as Zocchi runs 300+cc's the only downside to that is weight of the liquid. But what ever we shall see the limits of suspension being tested in the years to come i mean 5 years ago no one ever would have thought we could have a 5.9lb DH 8inch air fork. But we can so time will tell. Aside from that The bike is rockin, Mega jealous.
yes the volume of oil in a 888 does add to the weight. the ATA only has a large volume in one leg. the amount of oil has its advantages too. superb lubrication of the bushing, and since there is so much oil it doesn't heat up nearly as fast from moving through the valving. so the forks characteristics wont change during a demanding run. also the valving can be larger meaning it runs under less hydraulic pressure so less wear and less likely to blow seals. especially lift access where the oil can't cool down between runs. its all just preference i guess. the years to come will be very interesting things are progressing quicker and quicker.
Yea, You said this years ATA had an Issue? what was it? the 888 ATA is one of the forks i havent had a chance to ride yet so i my opinion is worth about as much as a garbage bag xD
'08 888's had bushing problems. but they fixed that now. the adjustability on the ATA is amazing. you can manipulate every characteristic about it. having alot of fun playing with settings right now.
i dont own one
such a sick bike dude and loving the color!!
just another one, does it sit and sag nicely in corners?
Never thought I would see the day
