Updated Iron Horse Sunday WC with Formula The One brakes, Industry Nine hubs/spokes on Mavic 823 rims, Chromag Fubar OSX handle bars, and Chromag 36T chain ring. The headtube angle is sitting at 63 degrees thanks to a Cane Creek Angle Set. I think I'm officially done now?
Hey, was it hard to drill through the frame here? How much time did you need and what did you use? Being closer to a complete repaint of my Sunday and am thinking about this.
I used a dremel to cut through the frame. Took around 2 hours to do and then I used a file to round out the rough edges. It wasn't hard to do. Just make sure you secure the frame some how so it doesn't move on you. You should really do this to yours! It looks awesome, doesn't sacrifice any strength, and helps when cleaning the bike.
The shock is a 2012 model. It took a buddy and I over 10 hours using a few different shaped files and a dremel to get it to fit. It was all a guessing game; put the shock in and check the clearance, take the shock out and take more material off, and repeat! I never had any issues with the frame in the 3+ years I rode it. You can see I did a lot of modifications to the frame like cutting out the inside of the rectangular CNC seat post areas as well! This frame treated me well, it stood up to all the gnarly trails I rode and all the hard crashes I had. I've now retired it and it's hanging up on my wall
Thanks man! With a steady hand a a few buddies to chill with, it makes the job easier to do
What kind of deal did you get on the 06? I look through the BuySell every now and then and see quite a few good deals. You made a good choice going with the Sunday and your going it! You won't need to get the Vivid Air revalved by the way. Try to pick up a medium/medium tune or a medium/high tune. Also look into getting an AngleSet to slacken the headtube out a bit.
I plan to strip, repaint, and toss new bearings in. I have not decided if I want to do air or coil yet (probably what I find a deal on). I usually buy everything new, and have never bought a frame this 'used' before. Ive decided I want to try and save as much money as possible on this build and wait out for good deals on the buysell. I know there are good deals to be had, and have heard of plenty of people buying used (good condition) stuff off the buysell.
I have wanted to buy and restore a sunday for a while now. These frames are seriously timeless, I cant think of another frame from 2006 that can be 'fixed' (angleset) to have geo similar to today's dh frames. Lets also not forget about the history these frames have with Mr Hill as well!
Nope Iron Horse is dead so how could I? That area of the frame is super beefy so there's no way anything could happen to it. I've been riding it like that for the last 6 months without any issues

Could have serious negative impact on the strength of your frame..
