@Notmeatall: Bushings with dimples like that on the inner diameter are used successfully in my industry. That's in the context of greased pin joints, though, so I couldn't say whether they'd be similarly helpful here with the lower viscosity of the fork oil.

SRAM Patent Confirms Boxxer Stanchion Dots Are For Lubrication Purposes
The dimples resemble what HEF does with their PEL bushings. Those can work quite well in the right applications.
Grooves and spirals on the inner diameters of bushings are very common in greased pin joints in the mobile equipment industry.
