I can confirm that the quality of the paint is not good at all. On my bike, you can scratch it off with a fingernail.
Get a rock flung up onto your frame? Paint chips all over it.

ZEP's How-To Mythbusters: Position and Balance for Steeps and Heavy Braking
This is what i was thinking, as my local DH Trail has many of these steeps. Very steep then a sudden and angled (to the left) change of ground angle. If you ride centered like they say you should, you're gonna go OTB.
