Video: How The Heck Does This Motor Work?

Ben, a planetary gearbox is used on standard ebike motors for the initail rpm reduction, not that basic gear box you demonstrated. Well made video that did help me understand the new system. Thanks.

@CustardCountry: Yes! That's a huge problem that could be mitigated with having another builder on the team. I can imagine a different outcome for Emil if he was not so tired and i imagine he would agree. Something has to change and adding a builder would be a big step up in safety. Best of luck Emil.

Cam McCaul Off Trek Bikes After 22 Years

Very proud to have spent a week with Cam and the Anthill crew during the filming of the baja segment of Follow me. One of the greatest times of my life. I built the landing for his front flip that was absoutely cutting edge at the time. He was on fire the whole trip bringing more energy and personality than i have ever witnessed. I am still inspired by his energy and dedication to the sport. Thanks Cam!

Specialized's Levo 4 eMTB is Powerful & Adaptable, But Isn't Totally Balanced

Lenghtening the chainstays lowers the bottom bracket and slackens the head angle which most likely is causing the unbalanced feel. All that swat stuff in the stearing tube and top of the frame should be removed saving a significant amount of weight at the highest point. (what were you thinking specialized?). Try the bike with stock settings and without the swat and I think you will see a marked improvement. yes its heavy but it does inspire more confidence than gen 3 and will go 42 miles and 4500ft vert in one charge.

've had the 8sp ex1 for 10 years. Because you shift less, the cog you use the most wears out quickly then the chain skips, then say goodbye to $400. 8sp does work well, but the lower half of the cassette needs to be steel or have replacable cogs. I would like a modular battery that splits in two. So you have say 2-420W sections that can be used individually, or be snapped together to make a 840W battery pack.

Rider Sues Specialized, Claims Turbo Levo Motor ‘Defect’ Caused Him to Crash

Yes its true there is a torque sensor that can go bad. it happened to me. it started to overrun more and more on a ride so i imeadiately called my LBS and got a new motor before something "bad" happened. Specialized sent one right out no question. bike running great 3 years later. I imagine the guy felt something was wrong but just kept riding.

Yes, those were top bikes in 1986. Also the first bike i ever saw with a large diameter downtube, which of course i learned later was aluminum. very distincitve look too with short seat tube. Couple guys in town were doing trials/tricks on them and seeing all that motivated me to sell my road bike.
