Shimano Patent Reveals a Co-Axial Brake Mount
The benefits are pretty clear - braking forces less on the frame and more on the axle, better alignment with rotor, remove adapters for different rotors sizes (one less tolerance to manage), less/none brake noise from vibration (currently part of frame design).
The 'problem' with current design is that the alignment of the caliper to the rotor is based on frame position - design choices, manufacturing tolerances, how tight your rear axel is also makes a difference. With the above system all the frame design and related manufacturing issues are removed from the equation, along with how tight your rear axel is. Everything brake related is moved to a smaller part that can be machined to higher tolerances. I think its a great step forward in MTB engineering. Floating brake designs may become more common as well.
BUT if there are going to be two competing implementations of it with potentially different hub/end cap designs and potentially different caliper designs and changing frames or brakes means changing a bunch of other parts this idea can just F right off.

No Bomber RAC? Right on the cusp in 2000. Aren't they going for some ridiculous amounts online?
