@nilswalk: you can have a procedure called a Kyphoplasty with Spine Jack done to restore the height of the vertebral body and fill it with "cement" to make it sturdy again.
We do these procedures at my hospital all the time.

$1300 USDI’m the 2nd owner. I purchased this bike last Summer. Bike has normal scratches and scuffs a mtb should have. Bike works flawlessly. Just had the shock serviced in June and the fork serviced last summer by Travis at Sickline Suspension Service. This bike rips!
