Brain Injuries in Mountain Biking - Are We Doing Enough?
Good point...its a glaring omission from this article. How can you list 5 points without mentioning the helmets as a critical part of the potential problem i.e. are they doing a good enough job? We need better helmets...if we don't have this opinion we are assuming helmet technology is already as good as it can be which is hard to believe. Its interesting the trend in Enduro helmets with lower protection around the back of the skull. One should ask by default in any concussion 'Could the helmet have done a better job?'. I'm not saying that the helmets can prevent all issues but we need to be critical of their performance and testing standards.

Inside Canyon Bikes
I bought a Grand Canyon CF SLX 29er. Managed to break the seat stay somehow...still don't know how I did it. Carbon on the seat stay is only a 1mm wall thickness so very delicate. Canyon would not entertain warranty and only offered crash replacement. Fine I thought but I don't want another Carbon frame too delicate for an mtb...so can I buy the aluminum 29er as crash replacement instead...ehhh no. Like for like change only. I just got the frame repaired (risky I know) and carried on. I recently went to take the integrated headset (original from factory) cup out of the frame. It fell out of the frame!!! It should be interference fit and its not, I was able to push the new bearing and cup in by hand...eeekkkkk. Not so confident in the manufacturing tolerances. You could see where they faced the frame and its wider than the reamer because it didnt't face evenly. So that is my last Canyon...

Opinion: Should You Take More Risks?
Totally agree. I had a fall and broke my C6 at an enduro race, over the bars and head hit on a tree stump, not steep or that fast just wrong place wrong time or...lack of skill. If I was wearing a neck brace I would have been fine, but sure its an enduro its safer than DH you don't need one...Yeah right. I now have a plate and fused C6/C7. I had a wake up call and luckily I'm fine, any worse and I would have been in a wheelchair. There are more near misses in mtb than we like to think.Treading that line between risk and injury is precarious and difficult, knowing where the redline is, thats the problem!
