At What Point Does Mountain Biking Go From Inspiring to Unrelatable?
I'd say never. I heard someone once say that Brandon Semenuk makes videos that look how riding feels. (I think maybe it was Cam McCaul that said that.) He's right. Semenuk is one of the best and I can't do anything he does, but his videos are always inspiring, and make we want to get out and ride. Danny MacAskill, on the other hand, usually does not make me want to get out and ride. He's one of my favorite riders and I can watch his videos all day long, but I would say most of his videos are more entertaining than inspiring.
Lastly, I'd say XC racing is the least relatable discipline of all types of riding. Most people want to have fun and explore. XC is neither of these.

I had these on a DJ bike that I barely rode. You can see there is a little bit of foot rub on the right crank arm, but otherwise these are in near new condition. Never got these wet, and since they were on a DJ, they never got pedaled very much. The chainring shows almost no signs of wear and the bottom bracket feels like new. Comes with what is shown; i.e., only one BB spacer, but that is probably all you will need.

Pinkbike Poll: Do You Care What Your Bike Looks Like?
XC race bikes can look as ugly as possible if it makes it lighter and more efficient. I'd group them in same category as TT and Tri bikes.
