Not really. They don't want the gearbox drag but want the freedom of suspension design the 'remote' chainring offers.
Also allows them to easily move to a gearbox...

I'm not sure how the US operation was meant to continue if the main operation folded...unless they meant it became the defacto YT and took over all manufacturing and design?
