Wow, Diacompe Speedcheck... I remember Mountain Bike Action Magazine included that brake in a three-way disc brake shootout in 1994. The other brakes were Tri-Cruiser (?), Mountain Cycles, Sachs Powerdisc, AMP Research proto,and Hope mechanical. As I recall, the article concluded that the disc brakes on test were okay, but that they couldn't yet challenge cantilevers in raw stopping power. 😂😂😂

It's a shame that this thing's weight is in the same league as an e-bike. I realize these guys built the bikes for themselves, but for me the weight penalty is just too much.

I think the point of this bike is to get people talking about Canyon, and secondarily to gauge interest in the bike itself. Kind of like Magic Motorcycles Cannondale of yore.

When I was a teenager I dreamt of getting a Lawwill Leader fork but my bike had a 1" headtube and the Leader was 1.125" only, so I got something else. A couple of years ago I finally picked one up and very recently put it on a retro build. It is a really amazing fork for the time, it gobbles up square-edged bumps like nobody's business. Rest in Peace, Mert!

The article says, "[Motion Engineering's] Flow EVO shock has since been developed into a functioning, saleable product". It might be a functioning, saleable product, but it is not in fact for sale on their website. Motion has put out a fair amount of concept products that cannot be ordered on their website in spite of having been there for years.

Hopefully they'll update these with the new fluid and seals that eliminate the wandering bite point!

@bman33: That's good if the new ones don't do that. I saw a relatively recent one (2020 or so) in the shop where I work and it was loose. If the problem is indeed solved, I wonder how many years it took for them to address it. I used the collar on all three of my hubs and eliminated the rattling on every one of them, but at the expense of the chain sagging when backpedaling. Then I'd go back and loosen the collar just a hair and the play was back. In my experience, it is very hard to adjust the collar precisely. When I told them I was having difficulty, they got passive aggressive on me. I'm not a crack mechanic, but I'm no slouch, and in my view bike stuff should always be dead easy to fix. High-end bike gear sometimes ends up with a halo. Very little of it deserves it- if someone spent a ton of money on it and it didn't break, they're probably gonna say it's amazing. King headsets and bearings seem to warrant the accolades, their rear hubs in my experience don't. As for Paul, similar deal in my opinion. The hubs are nothing special, the cranks and stems aren't forged, so a fifty-dollar one from Velo Orange or whoever is likely stronger. Current brake levers and brakes are very well made. Anyways, I'm glad your experiences were better than mine.
