It's becoming the normal now. Unfortunately, there aren't too many options for decent kids bikes that don't command such a high price. Thankfully the resell market is quite good so you can make good money back when they grow out of them. I got lucky and scored an old Transition TR250 for £300 and must have spent another £300 on components, admittedly it is too big for my lad as he is only ten. Thankfully he is growing and it will see him through until a least Juniors (hopefully).
